I would prefer 3rd party publishers have a full and complete set of rules to work from, rather than an incomplete pre-playtest, pre-edited version. Getting "something out the door right away" is not necessarily better than "getting nothing out the door right away", if what they get out the door early is sloppy stuff based on an earlier draft of the rules.

Bad third party products hurt the hobby in general, and third party products tend to be bad when they are based on the wrong rules set.

So I am happy if there is going to be a delay of a few months between the launch of 4e and the third party products. There is no rush in my mind. Being patient in this case gets better results. Trying to race against competitors to be the first 4e third party products doesn't sound like a good way to make quality products.

Just because they'll start with a pre-playtest version doesn't mean it'll stay that way. At least now they have a solid basis for the framework, and can do minor changes as necessary.

I mean the book trade, which is something we started distributing through this year. The Art of Dragon was really the first book that hit, followed by Pathfinder in some locations (notably Borders) and the Planet Stories line (Gary Gygax's The Anubis Murders is everywhere. Buy it!). Book store distribution is a growing an important part of our business.

Anyone hear anything yet? I've been out of the loop for a bit working on other things...
I am also curious. Let's hope that it's any day now. BTW -- do you think if the rules went out to a select group of publishers that they would even be able to say if they have received them?

As of this past weekend, Paizo had not received the new ruleset (according to posts from staffers on their boards).

I can also state that Paradigm Concepts has yet to get a copy of the 4e rules set...

I have a feeling it may be still out in play-test rotation, only reason why we wouldn’t have the rules set by now.

Its definitely a possibility... The thing is, when they do release the SRD, there is no way that I'll be contacted unless Scott has my email someplace which I doubt. I missed out on Gencon this past year, so he doesn't have my contact info.
