Hmmm... when I'm reading this, I don't see any reason, why 3rd party products would hurt the sales of this initial suite. In fact, every 3rd party product is an ad for WotC, because every 3rd party product will basically say "You need to buy the 4E corebooks to play".

I mean, 3rd party books may be competition for splatbooks, but for the very core books!? No 3rd party book can hurt the core book sales, because they're, well, core!

We are working to get things wrapped up and I feel really good about the progress we have made over the last week. It had been on the back burner for a few weeks as we are short staffed on the brand team right now but we are back at it. We know the schedule pressures the other publishers are under (Erik Mona and Clark Peterson are really good about reminding me ) so we want to get this finalized ASAP.

How can I say its coming out in July? Like this: "Its coming out in July."

Seriously. We've already ported all the monsters from all the Tomes to Saga format long ago, presuming that would be how 4E worked just as a baseline. Hey look, we were right! So the tweaking will not be that massive of a project. Plus, Scott Greene is about the sickest monster freak I have ever met. He can convert monsters in no time. It is truly amazing. I can call the guy and go "hey Scott I need a couple new monsters" and the next morning I have 20 brand new cool fully statted out monsters. He is an amazing machine. I'm not kidding. We have made a ton of educated guesses and so far they have all been right.

Will it just be Tome1 for 4E? No. It will be the best monsters from Tome1, a few select from Tome2 and 3. And then all the ones from the MM that they left out that we want to do or ones they did that we want to redo--the succubus as a demon for instance. We wont duplicate MM monsters unless we need to provide a proper 1E alternative version (succubus and lamia for instance).

Scott Greene and I (and some input from Mona) have talked about which monsters might need a rework. There will be new art for a good batch of the monsters too. And clearly the monsters will need modification from the Saga format we have now to reflect the new 4E stuff--roles such as skirmisher, etc.
