Have any of you been to the Wizards boards?

Just wonder if any of you have frequented the d20 Modern discussion board over at Wizards.com. I was just there and it strikes me as a fanboy gush-fest. Typical posts seem to be things like, "Kudos to all you awesome Wizards game designers for making the Menace Manual! Great job!"

Am I right, or just being overly hasty?

Ditto JD. Not my kinda place. But I didn't stay long enough to really be able to say that conclusively and with full authority.

Also, slow.

I check about once every other month, and I don't believe I have ever bothered to post there. Gush fext big time. I think people are afraid to post non-WotC stuff there or something :)

If someone wants to express their gratitude, who are we to ridicule that person?

AFAIC, I don't listen to anyone who uses child-like opinions without any constructive criticism that concerns the material ... usually those that contains third-grade words like "sucks!" or tries to sneak a side comment about the designer's intelligence or competence.

Then again, you go to any fan web site's message board which are moderated, and they tend to lean favorably toward the favorite product or line.

On this board, it leans favorably toward d20 in general. Only once in a great while someone tries to ridicule the system and the gamers who use it, only to be defended by many who are in support of the system.

Then again, I am probably displacing my own personal experience. I got a hardlined father who rarely praises me but always criticizes me. The most common image of my parent always bear a disappointed look. I have to dig deep in my memory to recall if ever he was proud of me.

Sometimes, we gamers took the game designers for granted. I mean, they're not out to win some prestigious Pulitzer or Hugo Award for their literary works. We just buy their games and play. If you feel the need to praise the author, don't hesitate. They might want to hear their time and energy is being invested well.

I go there often. Only because this forum isn't quite as active. But after my most recent post there...it's fanboy central. All I wanted was some people to give some ideas NOT inspired directly by movies that came out recently and all I got was thrashed because all the "THE MATRIX IS ALL THAT IS D20" fanboys came out in hordes.

What IS this world coming to?

No, you're right. People who like D20 Modern posting on the official D20 Modern board... There's obviously something wrong.

Basically, most of the the complaining is done with. There was a lot of nasty name-calling early on, but the regular posters got tired of it and started reporting to the moderators. Eventually, I guess the people who were complaining for the sake of hearing themselves got tired and left.

So, right now, there's a glut of fanboys. Eventually that'll change, when the fanboys start being incredibly rude to anyone with a different opinion, and those people start reporting posts.

There's a lot of 'topic churn' on the WotC boards, and themes get repeated quite a bit. Just watch it for a while and things will settle down... then get chaotic again.

I post over there as swordmonkey sometimes, though I find the maturity and levels of discussion to be a good bit higher at enworld and other places.

There is a good amount of fanboy-ness and immaturity, but there are also a very good core of posters like Razorface, Montanakennedy, djorgenson, and several others who I have gleaned some very good information from and had good discussions with.

The moderators are very much active though (sometimes overly so), so there isnt very much nastiness or anything that gets outside of the Code of Conduct for very long.

The only real fanboyishness or negative experience I've had there was after I had the nerve, the sheer audacity, to disagree with Charles Ryan in a thread that ran about the plastic miniatures debate. I received a few emails from posters and a certain moderator saying that I shouldnt be so disagreeable to Mr Ryan, which cheesed me a bit.
