Have you decided to change systems?

The sell me on WFRP v2 thread has got me thinking. In it several people have said they left 3.5 behind and are exclusively Warhammer, or they're taking a break from D&D for an unspecified amount of time. My group and I decided awhile ago to go back to AD&D 2nd because that was the system we had fun with, knew well, and could run adventures the way we want to run adventures.

I still come here to browse and post. I still like the community here but 3.5 and d20 is not my system anymore.

How many are like this? I'm kind of curious. Please tell what system you're playing. I think it's great that d20 is leveling out and new systems are emerging, or coming into the spotlight, again. I hear Wild Talents is awesome, Hollow Earth Expeditions is cool, Exalted 2e is great.

So, have you changed systems?

You make it sound like a switch - either all you play is 3.x D&D, or you play a single specific something else.

I currently run a 3.xE D&D game. I play in a GURPS game. I the past I've played/ran three or four different systems in overlapping campaigns. I haven't been married to a single system in decades.

So, did I switch? No. Do I play other things? Yes.

I play a number of games, D&D included, but I don't run D&D 3.x anymore. The two campaigns I'm currently running are WFRP 2e and B/X D&D.

I guess I did make it sound like a switch. The reason is because we have time to play one system and alternate boardgames on our game nights. We're a small group and between work, school, families, we're not willing to dedicate anymore time to gaming. I know others are not in this situation so take it for what it's worth.

Like Umbran, I have always played multiple systems. For my fantasy gaming though, D&D 3e / D20 is the best that I have ever found. I can tweak it in ways that no other system can accept. And I have tried, believe me. So, no, I have not "changed systems". If anything, my 3e gaming is increasing.

I guess its hard for some of us who have only played D&D all their life and to come out of their mould without feeling that they have abandonned d20 altogether.

I'm running Savage Tide, playing in Expedition to Castle Ravenloft, and running a True20 game.

In the future, I expect to be running True20 as my primary system.

I didn't "switch," but I do play other systems (and arguably run them more often).

EDIT: To be fair, I never run D&D and rarely play it; I do run and play quite a bit of d20, but it's usually d20 Modern-based.

Yes, I have. Being a C&C'er, I would say that I haven't flown that far from the coop, but I haven't played 3e in a long time.

But I still enjoy spending time on the Enworld messageboards.

I've stopped running 3.5, but I wouldn't go so far as to say that I'll never play it again. It's not my first choice for D&D-type games, anymore, though. I'm running two C&C games, a Holmes D&D game, and the occasional game of Call of Cthulhu (BRP), Mutants & Masterminds, or Lejendary Adventure. I've been reading Northern Crown and thinking about running it, too. Oh, I ran a True20 mini-series a few months ago, too.
