Have you noticed something? Wizards is listening!

I wish they hadn't turned the miniatures thing into a 'magic the gathering'/pokemon gotta catchem all collecters extravaganza. I just want miniatures to display my characters and the monsters in the campaign... if some are rare... that really screws things up.

I agree with this 100%. I would trad probably all of myt mini (rare of common) for minis that I can use for my character to display. Speakin' O wich, would anyone want a trade of such?

Wizards does Listen - at least, some of their higher-ups still do.

Why do you think I remind them how much I like the d20 license every chance I get, and how much killing it for 4E would make me an upset buyer? :)
As much as I like the Ryan Dancey's d20/OGL movement, we are losing more publishers supporting the d20 label.

Hey, I have no idea what that is, can you fill me in? (referring to Ranger REG up there)
Before we used to complain a flood of d20 products in the market. Now, Atlas Game will discontinue their d20 line after publishing a Colonial Period rulebook (reportedly will tie-in with Nyambe). Eden Studio has pretty much stop their d20 Odyssey line, despite the successful Fields of Blood: The Book of War. Fantasy Flight Games is following Mayfair and go into the more successful TCG & boardgame business ventures. For all intent and purpose, Fast Forward Games committed industrial suicide. And I have loads of dead links of potential d20 publishing companies web site.

The remaining A-list d20 publishers like Mongoose are now moving toward developing standalone SRD/OGL-based game products, sans the d20 label. With that, the PHB becomes a less important item that WotC is banking on. After all, they don't get money from the other publishers for using the label, they get money from the folk that buy the required PHB. Kinda like requiring an XBOX to play the Jade Empire (at least until they come out with a PC version).

But when and Why was "D20" copyrighted, and what exactly is the "d20"? It seemed like it was the whole layout for the game,(dice rolls and tables) but that doesn't fit with some of the things that I have seen.

The d20 System is trademarked 1999, though it got registered at the USPTO some time later.

What exactly is WotC's d20 System? It's based on elements from many previous (A)D&D rules, though with better improvements.

Though there are other d20-based rulesets, just as there are many other d6-based rulesets, WotC was lucky enough to trademark theirs as d20 System.

Why? White Wolf have Storyteller System. Steve Jackson Games have GURPS. Palladium Books have the Megaversal System. Hero Games have the HERO System. Each game publishers have their own in-house rules system that they used for almost all of their RPG products. WotC wanted something just like that.

Such as? If you're referring to many variant of health systems or attack resolutions or equipment creation rules -- among many other options -- the d20 System is meant to be flexible that allow plug-in mechanics. If you dont like the standard D&D hit point system, then why not try out the vitality/wound point system?

Oh man, I've hated every product they ever put out, and resented every book they put out being omnipresent at the LGS while I couldn't track down Monsternomicon or Magical Medieval Society no matter where I shopped. Even DragonCon, for God's sake.

Please, tell me more of this industrial suicide.

Probably because we've gotten past the "glut" of d20 books and after seeing a few publishers fail due to excess, others and newer ones are being more cautious.

You might be thinking of FFE, not FFG.
