Have your players abused intelligent items yet?

I notice that the new rules for Intelligent Items in 3.5 have the effect of (1) making them purchaseable by PCs, and (2) making explicit that the item can control it's own abilities.

Has anyone abused this yet? I mean, I've heard it suggested that, for an extra 2-3K, you can get your Boots of Speed set up to work as a free action (although, now that I think of it, the 3.5 boots work that way anyhow.)

But what about, say, Rings of Invisibility? Would you pay an extra 3000 gp. to have a Ring that can return you to invisibility after a full attack, or an attack and move - every round?

So, has anyone experienced this kind of abuse in a game yet?

Does it say the PCs control them or the DM like an NPC? Because, I've always run them as DM controled with the item deciding when best to use its item.

I have this image in my head of a greatsword receiving a spanking over the knee of a scorched fighter.

"Bad hellblade! Bad! No polish for a month! That'll teach you to flame burst in the middle of a lamp oil factory."
