Head of the class (stonegod judging)[Concluded]

(Fortitude Save, DC 12 everyone (except Anvuss and Shoot), paralyzed for 2d4 rounds if you fail).
For once, Fang seemed to pay too much attention to one of the screaming, flying heads, and froze in place, clearly frightened. Shoot stooped to tend to the animal, until the sight of the disembodied brain in the ornate jar distracted him. Shoot didn't think the thing could make him act like an undead monster, but didn't want to give it a chance to do so to Fang. He loaded a sling bullet and let it fly at the jar.

The flying head's scream catches Seat unprepared, and he has to grit his teeth and add a considerable amount of willpower to resist. Seat then gets the book and moves towards the door.

ooc: Save against Vargouille total 15; one action point spent.

[sblock=IcyCool]Unfortunately, I roll a natural 1 on the ST against the Suggestion (I think it's a Suggestion. In that case I may have an opportunity, since as soon I carry the book to the carriage the spell will end and I'll be able to act normally. Assuming I'm not stopped first)[/sblock]

Combat, Round 2 Cont.

Raven feints a quick downward slash at the side of the creature's head, and as it tries to dodge, she brings her blade up and buries it deep in the jaw of the creature. It's otherworldly scream dies as the creature does, and it drops to the floor.

Seat manages to shake off the shriek of the flying head, and snatches up the Codex of Bone. He heads for the door and gets as far as J21.

Fang, having fallen prey to the flying head's shriek, quivers in place, but is otherwise motionless. Shoot, determined not to let the flying brain hurt his furry friend, hurls a sling bullet at Bryllys, connecting solidly.

OOC: Tali is up next in Round 2.

Patlin, I was always under the impression that "a straight line" meant movement much like a queen in chess gets, which would mean no charge for Anvuss (as he has to go an extra step south in his southeast line). Perhaps we can get stonegod's weigh in on this? I'll poke around in the relevent section of the rules when I get a chance and look over it as well.

My opinion, wanted or not, is that you're not limited to move like the quenn in the game or chess: though the rules call for moving in staright line, and moving in a direction that's not N,S,E,W,NE,NW,SE,SW implies moving the miniature in a crooked line, that's an artifact of the grid and how movement is measured in game, not the actual movement of the character, who's actually moving in a straight line.

So in the picture:

the warrior with the halberd is IMO able to charge the gnoll and is not limited to move to the squares highlighted in red.[/sblock]

ooc: I believe Someone's assertion of the rules is correct, but when I said DM's call what I was indicating is that I'm not clear if the copper pots block a direct line. If I had it all spread out on a game board, I'd just take a thread and see if I could make it work, but as it is....

Anyway, I have no desire to rock the boat on a rules dispute! :) Anvuss can double move to E21 instead, threatening the yellow robed human. (Though if Someone's convinced you, I'd still prefer the charging idea.)

Edit: Oops. Picked "Lo" off of the foes list without realizing that was the person described above. Don't want to attack him. I guess I'll either charge the brain or double move up to it, whichever way you rule.

Raven smiles grimly at the third Vargoule she has killed. Destroying these disgusting creatures was rewarding work. She turns back to the fray. "Seat! What are you doing with the Codex?!"

Tali, Anvuss and Shoot seemed to have the talking jar in hand. Loriss and the skelleton seemed to present no immediate threat. Raven will delay her action. If Seat continues out of the room without giving a satisfactory answer to her question, Raven will dash after him and try to cut him off.

"I think the best thing is to carry it to the black carriage in the loading dock to the north" affirms Seat, without stopping a second. "See you later."
