Heal Skill - Failure?

Does another characters failure to stabilize a dying character using the Heal skill count against it's checks before it does actually die?

I had our cleric go down last game to a couple o' kobolds and the ranger & fighter with the 8 & 9 WIS were hesitant to attempt to bind the wound for fear of killing her. Was this right?

First Aid is a Healing skill check. It is neither a saving throw, nor does it count as one. So failed Healing check does not count as a failed saving throw.

They should have rolled those skill checks.

Now if it was for treating disease, you might kill the patient but that's a different story.

Well on the plus side the cleric made her saving throw (luckily) and so our poor interpretation didn't kill the PC, thankfully.
