Healing belt from MIC

Belares

First Post
Does anyone else think this is highly underpriced? I mean 750g to buy and 500gp to create at 3rd level. Does anyone house rule the belt for higher? Anyway just wondering as my whole group wears one since they are dirt cheap to make/buy. Thoughts on the whole thing?

I'd say it is underpriced. A Potion of Cure Serious Wounds will heal 3d8+5 damage, which is about what you get from a Healing Belt if you spend it all at once for the 4d8 effect, and they each cost 750. But the healing belt can be spread out more *and* is reusable.

Its one of those things where, as long as you haven't gotten another belt, and you have 750 gp to spare, you'd be foolish to *not* have one.

I suspect the 750 was a typo and it was supposed to be 1000 given the cost to make is 500. However, even at 1000 it's cheap.

I'd also add the "You must wear this belt for 24 hours straight before it starts functioning" clause, so that you cannot just buy multiple belts.

At 750 you can either have this belt or a wand of lesser vigor. Which is better is campaign dependent I think.
And group dependent. The belt is great for groups with no divine casters.

In most cases, it'll be worthwhile for a character to buy a belt for himself and contribute to the group healing-wand-fund.

Bah, nothing stopping you from having both. 750 is cheap even at most low levels.

There was another thread about this a while ago. (Sorry, no link.) IIRC, it seems like if folks felt 750 was too low, they raised it to 1000 and/or added the 24-hour clause, but it was mostly personal preference.

My general impression of MIC in general is that it has way too many items that are priced too cheaply. I think this was a deliberate attempt to give more choice at lower levels than the standard fare, but these days I'm always careful about allowing anything from MIC due to the cheap prices.

I'd argue it's the other way around:
A potion of Cure Serious Wounds is too expensive.

The party crafter created belts for most of the party members. It didn't really have a major impact except to reduce the frequency when they have to buy wands of cure light wounds.

I also have the houserule that any wearable item has to be worn for at least 24 hours before it takes effect / can be used.

I don't need to worry as the DM has just band the whole Magic Item Compendium after seeing items like that in it. :( What a waste of money that book turned out to be.
