Heart of Artifice: Part I--Engineered Enigma

ooc: Magic of Faerun apparently too (or so says Crystal Keep). At Bard 2, Aethelus could easily write and cast it. He's got like +16 UMD to craft and +18 to use scrolls.

(OOC: Why is Circle Dance level 2 when Locate Creature is level 4--is there something I'm missing? Couldn't you just use Locate Object on Lucy's locket?--I'm actually not allowed to let you craft a scroll of an unapproved spell, even in game)

(OOC: It's the same range as Locate Creature though--if Circle Dance is level 2 and has much longer range than that (I don't know because I don't have SpC), then it is terribly overpowered with respect to the core divinations)

Anvuss (unless someone objects) heads off to try and get a look at the posessions of the other children.

ooc: That's much more restrictive than LEW. You can do just about whatever you want with items and stuff inside an adventure there, but your players can only keep them afterwards if they are aproved content. Range is the big issue, here, because we've got basically no idea where to look. I wasn't awake enough this morning to think of checking the range on Circle Dance, so the point may be moot... though I think it had a range of personal.

I think it's Bard 2, Sorceror/Wizard 3, Cleric 3. I suppose a 4th level Bard could cast a 2nd level Bard spell, so it would be in range of a 2nd level Artificer. I'm not a big Bard fan, I was thinking it would take a Bard 5, thus requiring an Artificer 3.

I was sort of hoping someone had a better idea than resorting to Divination, but I'm feeling sort of stuck. Unless one of the other kids kept a diary... a "personal log" as Anvuss would put it.

(OOC: I thought that you specifically can't let the players craft scrolls of unapproved spells during an adventure in LEW because Wizard players could then scribe those spells and learn them, but otherwise you can give out whatever magic items you feel like. I could be wrong though.)

(OOC2: I believe I've already given a few useful clues amongst all the chaff. Perhaps the group will naturally uncover more as time progresses?)

ooc1: That's a good way to go, but if you're willing to simply metagame and say "No, you're not allowed to scribe it and if you don't use it you must sell it before leaving the adventure" then I think you're all right.

ooc2: OK, we'll just keep at it then. Maybe I need to read the thread all at one sitting to sort it out, rather than just the last two or three posts each time. :)

OOC1: Simple, if he try to scribe it, he fails his Spellcraft roll and before leavimng teh game, a pickpocket take it :p

OOC2: That's RA... I'll have to reread all the thread to understand... I hope to discover something like I did in Crux or M3. M3 was another investigation quest. I had, at one time, reread all the thread and finish with a post that it took me 2 hours to write down... even today, I can't believe how near I was from the truth. Where was it... here, the post wasn't lost in the crash. Good time. But I'll have to do that for this adventure later, don't have time now.

ooc: I've always been impressed by that post and the deductive reasoning Velmont. I'll have to try reading this one through and see where I've missed things. Though I might need to try that with DI...
