Heart of Artifice: Part I--Engineered Enigma

(OOC: Alright, if I wait any more, it will just be like what I wanted to avoid, but in the reverse where all the waiting happens first and not second. So let's keep going )

*Anvuss drops behind the pillar. The guard circles warily, hoping to remove the cover soon--he can travel the circumference faster, even at this distance, than Anvuss can crawl around it. But with cover and the advantage of being prone, the guard misses Anvuss. Anvuss picks up the crossbow and fires. The mechanism is easy enough to figure out. The only trouble is that the enemy has cover as well. Still, it turns out to be just barely insufficient, and Anvuss delivers a heavy shock. The enemy continues, nearly getting to the point where Anvuss no longer has cover, and fires a shot that manages to hit for a minor jolt due to Anvuss's regrettable lack of agility.*

(OOC: Guard takes 8 (to my knowledge, the first time he has been damaged this fight). Anvuss takes 2)

 

[Patlin]

Anvuss will keep firing. If he has a move action available (I'm not sure how these things reload) he'll try to maintain cover.

(OOC: He has no idea how to reload it. I'll let him spend a Move-Equivalent Action to UMD to try to figure it out)

*Anvuss figures out the mechanism for reloading this thing. It's actually more efficient to recharge than a regular crossbow (OOC: Swift Action). He is unable to escape losing his cover, so he figures he might as well ready to fire when the enemy loses his own. Anvuss's shot is once again exceptionally strong. The enemy grimaces as he fires, and the pain makes him miss.*

(OOC: Wow, you're lucky--an 18 and an 8 damage to match the 16 and 8 from last round. And the enemy gets a natural 4--grrr!)

 

[Patlin]

Anvuss looks at the fallen Kharas, chagrinned.

Only luck can save us now!

*Knocks on wood*

Anvuss will keep firing... he's out of fancy tricks.

*Anvuss fires another powerful shot, but this one misses completely. The guard manages to hit, but the shot barely zaps Anvuss at all. Worried about another lucky shot, the guard retreats around the pillar so that each has cover from the other.*

[Patlin]

Anvuss, his calm a bit frayed around the edges, will keep firing.

 

[Velmont]

"ZZZZzzzzzz......" tells the dwarf

*Anvuss and his foe exchange failed shots from behind the pillar, as the enemy looks up and around at the sky expectantly, then shakes his head.*

"Soon."

(OOC: Anvuss again)

Anvuss will keep shooting. This battle can't last more than another minute, he'll concentrate on one thing at a time.

*The two exchange failed attacks again as the guard takes a prone position as well as Anvuss to maintain a defensive and protected position.*
