I want to buy a monster book and i only have the MM. I like to run grim and gritty, dark and realistic campaigns. Do you have suggestions ?

A grim and gritty tone helps narrow down the field. Do your adventures focus more on combat or role-playing? And what's the power level -- are you looking for something to throw at a high level group?

For a grimmer and darker game, I'd go with either the Tome of Horrors II or Liber Bestarius. Both have lots of weird, dark, and scary critters which fit very well into my dark/gritty game. I'd avoid the Monsternomicon though unless you are wanting to add steampunkish elements and about 20 new types of monstrous humanoids.

If you're looking for something inexpensive, but still has a lot to offer. I'd humbly suggest Khan's Press's Monster Anthology vol 1. It's got a wide range of encounters levels, loads of demons and other "evil" creatures... It's a pdf available through RPGNow.

Beyond that I only own the MM. I've got a load of 1ed monster books and tend to convert those as needed...

You might want to look at Inner Circle's Denizens of Avadnu and Eden's Liber Bestarius for something different. Of course if you don't mind dual stats in your books, you can always pick up Keeper's Companion 2 from Chaosium for Call of Cthulhu. Can't get much more dark and scary than that. ;)

I'd suggest Monsternomicon, Creature Collection 2, Tome of Horrors (I don't have ToH2 yet so I don't know how it stacks up).

I did not like Creature Collection 1 and I didn't see much in 3 that either.

I also love Armies of the Abyss and Legions of Hell (now collected in The Book of Fiends). It is a specialized monster book, being Demons and Devils and Daemons, but if that's your thing there is fun stuff there.
