Isn't the requirement simply BAB +8 and Weapon Spec? So you need 4th level fighter and +4 in BAB from other classes.

I'd suggest that the OP starts with Rog 1 and then takes a level in Fighter for L2 for the feat.

If the OP isn't bothered about Sneak Attack then Ftr 4 / Mk 4 might be an interesting start.

I am again without my books, but I recall there being a prerequisite of either 8th level fighter or GWF, which would close the door to most PCs other than straight fighter. According to another poster, I am wrong, so I would check the book yourself before taking either of our words for it. Just trying to be helpful.

Jontherev, for this particular build precise shot is not needed as, if the enemy is in melee with an ally I will move to flank and still get the TWF/SA damage on them hopefully for the big hurt/kill. The idea is for this character to not be dependent totally on ranged attacks.

For a fully ranged attack optimized character I agree that precise shot is important.

Good point if you want to focus more TWF...not good if you want to focus on ranged (agreed!). You can't really do a great (maybe a decent, but not GREAT) job at both as a rogue being so feat-starved, even with tons of prestige classes. Ok, maybe one of you will make me eat my words with some concoction of taking 5 different prestige classes to get the freebies at level 1, but I have serious doubts. Generally, I don't like the idea of having so many prestige classes though, so I wouldn't allow that unless the player had a really great background that explained it all.

I once played a halfling 1Brb/2Ftr/RgX (it's been a while...don't remember the level)/Temple Raider of OlidammaraX, up until around 15th level or so. With a Fanged Mask, the TWF feats, the OLD feat (name escapes me now) where you got an extra attack when your foe was denied his dex (it's since been nerfed), and a ring of blinking, I was doing as much damage as the fighter was.

However, I almost never used ranged weapons, so I relied on my good saves (I took Luck of the Heroes and Strong Soul and maybe Iron Will too?), decent CON and super high AC to keep me in the fight. Defensive feats should never be ignored, even when you are feat-starved.

At the point where you have used 11 letters of acronyms to start your sentence, you've gone a long way to make your post unreadable. "I think (didn't check)" is about the same number of letters, but is actually English that nobody has to look up to comprehend. Kinda silly to be bothered about people not reading your post carefully enough when most people would have to check an online acronym dictionary to decipher your post.

I've always thought to use thrown weapons in a full attack you need to have quick draw. If you don't, isn't drawing the next weapon a move equivilant action?

If I'm right, it may be an inportant feat to pick up for your build.

You are correct sir. I would allow you to hold one weapon in your offhand and be able to throw two light weapons w/out the feat, but otherwise, you'd need quickdraw to throw more than one.

if you read my original post you will see that quickdraw is already accounted for. It is a pre req for Whisperknife.

It may be suboptimal mechanically as compared to other feat choices for your character, but combining your Dagger with grappling fits with my understanding of the way that daggers were used historically. Rather than held overhand and thrust upwards, illustrated medieval manuals show the dagger used underhand, thrust downward from overhead to target the neck, throat, and soft tissue above the clavicle. Basically, the technique is to grab your opponenet and stab downwards.

The feats that would simulate this are Knifefighter, a FR regional feat, Scorpion's Grasp (?), and (obviously) Improved Grapple (which requires Improved Unarmed Strike.)

(A level of Monk would clearly help. And I don't see any reason why Knifefighter couldn't be treated as a regular General feat, instead of a regional feat--- unless you're playing Forgotten Realms, I guess. )

The primary mechanical advantage would be that many opponents would be unable to use their (one-handed or two-handed) weapons, and most of those with light weapons or natural attacks would still have a -4 penalty to those attacks.

Effectively, you're netting a +4 bonus to your own dagger attacks while grappling (because the usual penalty is eliminated) and a +4 bonus to your AC (the -4 to your opponent's own attacks.) An opponent who relies on one-handed or two-handed weapons will be at a tremendous disadvantage.

The greatest drawback would be the loss of Dexterity bonus against other opponents outside of the grapple. You'd also have to watch out for Monks and Bo9S characters with that (Raging Mongoose?) feat that allows them to use their weapons in a grapple.

Still and all, it's not too shabby mechanically, and it's just cool thematically to mimic the historical method.
