The Origins site says they are working through the purchases from January, but there is no indication of how far they are, when this was posted, or what the timeline is. I'm afraid that game registration will open and I won't have my info to be able to sign up for events when it goes live (which is supposed to be this week!).

I'm probably just paranoid, and everything will work out fine. :uhoh:

I wouldn't worry too much. Keep checking the Origins site and check their forums (or even ask there). Just as a note, I ordered my badge in January and have not received information on event regisration yet.

I'll give you the same advice I give all first-time conventioneers. None of it is really Origins specific.

1. Don't buy anything on your first trip through the dealer's room. You'll see all kinds of cool stuff and spend too much money too early.

2. You will be walking, LOTS. Plan accordingly. I strongly recommend getting some Dr. Scholl's heavy duty insoles unless you already have a job where you're on your feet 8 hours a day.

3. In relation to 2, don't carry any more than you must in your backpack. A few dice, a couple pencils, clipboard, scratch paper, and one or two books at the most. It doesn't weigh much at first, but once you've carried all that all day, it'll feel like a ton.

4. Take some of your favorite pain medication with you. Ibuprofin and antacids of some sorts generally.

5. Keep careful track of your cash. There were ATMs at Origins when I was there, but they weren't always filled.

6. Bathe regularly. Unfortunately, you will find a number of people who have chosen to ignore this piece of advice.

7. Sign up early, but not for too much stuff. There are always neat things that aren't well advertised in advance.

8. Scout around outside the convention center for places to eat. You can almost always find a hotel restaurant or fast food place that gives much more value than the food at the convention.

Sorry, long day at work. I guess my big question (and I don't know if anyone can answer here or not) is how long does it take to get badge info to sign up for games? The registration is not set up yet (lucky for me!) but it seems to say that it will take some time before your info is emailed, and I would hate to pay the money only to be shut out of the opportunity to play!

Has anyone got a timeline of about how long it took your badge purchase to be processed?

The badge info should be relatively fast. I got mine a few minutes after I signed up. How long has it been ? You might want to contact them and see what's up.

Thanks Folks. To respond in order (I think):

Ghostwind
Derbacher, if you're 3 hrs from Columbus, are you in Northeastern or Northwestern Ohio?
Prety much East Ohio, just north of I70, about 15 miles from the West Virginia border. The closest local gaming stores are Pittsburgh (1:45), then Cleveland (2:15), then Columbus (3:00). Not easily reachable.

I check at least 3 or more times a day. (YES, I'm paranoid.)

One of my rules for all trips is "Don't buy stuff until the last day." That way I know how much cash I have.

I teach, and run rehearsal for the High School Musical, so I'm on my feet around ten hours a day. This is not a problem, but thanks!

3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8.
Thanks for the rest, too.

Yea, I sent an email yesterday. I signed up Friday, and was giving them the beginning of the week. We'll see what happens.

Thanks everyone for your great replies. Feel free to let this thread die now. :)

It depends on the con..... I don't know about Origins... but it sounds like they have a backlog..... I've pre-reged for Dragoncon before and gotten my postcard sent to me about a week later (KUDOS TO BRENDA FOR HER EFFICIENCY IN THEIR OFFICE!!! :D ). I didn't have any problems with picking up my badge at Celebration II although it was slow and the line long. Hopefully stuff won't fill up too quickly for you to miss out!

15 miles west of Steubenville on 22 to Cadiz (the Birthplace Of Clark Gable), then 7 miles south on Rt. 9, you come to the quiet (read: dead) hamlet of New Athens. 13 miles north of St.Clairsville (if that is any indication.)
