I think your DM might have some ideas on the matter. Play "in the moment" and at the game table.

I love my players. They have really gotten into the campaign. Jon Potter even named his donkey after the party sorceress.

Good fun.

Thank you all for your excellent advice! Based on your various replies, my course of action will be as follows:

1) Continue to worship Sune, in the hopes that her death has not yet occurred and that I will be able to stop it.

2) At the same time I'll do a lot of investigating about Sune. This will include talking to local clerics to see if they have detected anything abnormal about the fiery-haired goddess.

3) Do some serious investigative work about Mara, the goddess who may really be responsible for my powers. If possible, I will try to find a way to commune with her to find the answers that I seek.

Thanks again and I'll let you all know how it turns out!!

Yup. I just find that the best things about a game happen between the DM and the players, not from the in-between game stuff that tends to become over-analysis.

she concocts a plan with a lesser, younger goddess, in order to call her first Champion in half a millennia.

Mara is getting worshipped vicariously through Sune.... I suspected as much out-of-character. But, in character, I will need irrefutable evidence before my Paladin abandons her life-long beliefs and worships another goddess!

Nope, not quite there yet. After a series of dreams, a vision quest, and visiblly watching Mara blessing her last true cleric (then winking at you), I am not seeing what more you want.

Heck, the armor your wearing, which was your gift as the trials within the magical gate, has been shown to be the armor of a Champion of Mara. Finally, your Paladin mount has got to be the most butt-ugly dog on the face of the planet. No way Sune would allow her champion to ride an ugly mutt. :p

Just a quick question/reminder:

Mara is ...who?

Goddess of Truth, Honor, Courage, Virtue, Law, War, and Paladins. She is a largely forgotten deity who was worshipped in the dawn years. Her followers have been steadily disappearing since her last Justicar died 500 years ago.

She has a brother, Brand: God of Justice, Order, Peace, Healing, and Kingship. Brand's followers have been suffering a similiar fate.

There temples and shrines are almost always found together. Their followers led crusades against the evil deities Achyra, Orcus, and Liart in the past.

Achyra- the webmistress: Goddess of Deceit, Lies, Trickery, Plots, and Revenge.
Liart: God of Pain, Torture, Hatred, and Murder
Orcus- demon lord: God of Monsters, Undeath, Darkness, and Disease.
