Trogs get a -2 Dex, as well as having 2 racial HD and a LA+2, which is more than his 3rd level character can afford.Thurbane said:
You could do the same with a Lizardfolk though (+5 natural armor, 2 racial HD, +1 LA).
They'd be much better once you start getting them feats and the tower shield proficiency.
