Help me create a munched out first level halfling

If you want to avoid melee, then I'd suggest a Sor who uses darts (a thrown weapon) and knows the true strike spell and magic missile.

Just put the 18 in Cha, and then at sixth pick up leadership and get a melee cohort as a bodyguard.

Just an idea.

Hope things go well.

Are you sure you want to be gaming with people who don't respect you enough to talk to you like an adult instead of yelling at you like a child?

I heard from another player that they were drinking at the time, so I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt for now. I'm probably being too nice about it, but until the past week or so I was starting to consider the DM a friend.

Wouldn't it be kind of expensive in the lower levels to be throwing away 1gp for every point of damage you deal?

I think so. Plus the range increment on daggers is only 10 feet so I may still be closer than I care to be. The +1 bonus does make it a bit appealing, however.

Actually I was refering to the shuriken, which also had a 10 foot increment and does a whopping 1 damage per shuriken, with no str bonus. But you're right, for a rogue, sorcerer or any other halfer, thrown weapons are a plus. Daggers, shuriken, darts, all of the thrown weapons can't be pulled out and used again, can they?

Yeah. Which means I need to carry a lot. Considering halfling carrying capacity that may not be an idea situation.

Well, a halfling with a 14 Str can carry 43.5 pounds as a light load. Small-sized armor weighs 7.5 pounds, a short sword weighs 3 pounds, each dagger weighs 2 pounds... you're not going to be able to carry more than 12 or so daggers without it beginning to affect your speed... maybe a light crossbow would be better? a case of bolts weighs 1 lb. a piece...

I tried to talk to him about that and got yelled at by him and his wife. There was name-calling too. It wasn't pleasant and I don't think I'll get any concession out of him.

Even if they were drunk, I would put with that for about 2 seconds. Whether or not I "let 'em have it" would depend upon a couple of things (like whether or not I ever wanted to play with them again), but it would be on the table. This game is about having fun with friends you know, not being abused by nasty folks. I think it was Edena_of_Neith who put it best in the thread about DM burnout that way. Go check it out (its in the General Discussion).

Yeah, but if you are determined to stick it out, go for Ranged Rogue with Rapid Shot, and the skills I mentioned earlier.

I fear that this will eventually lead to a spiral though, with a first level character dying. And a new first level character dying. And a new first level character dying. And a new first level character dying. All the while, the rest of the party is leveling up. They start fighting a skeleton warrior, while you run away without save due to fear.

I am so obnoxious that I would demonstrate this. I would create characters with a two page background, preferably paladins or lawful good wizards modelled after Palin Majere, so retreat is not an option. Then I see how long the Dm takes to see that I am not playing to have fun. If he doesn't, I knew I wouldn't belong in the game.

Go with a Paragon halfling. Then it doesn't really matter where put your stats or what class you choose.

Or play a cleric with the Luck domain, which gives you one reroll of any die per day. Nice to have when you fail a saving throw and face certain death. Take Trickery as your second domain to get some nice Rogue class skills.

Or pick a gnome barbarian with a 20 Con and the Toughness feat. First level character. 20 hit points. Boo ya.
