Help me destroy the Forgotten Realms!

1: Purchase When the Sky Falls.
2: Purchase Chaositech.

This will give you all the apocalyptic goodness you need. You should consider getting them in .pdf format if you decide you want them, because spending $40+ for one event might rub you the wrong way. Both of these products are top-notch, and I'm not saying that because I'm a Malhavoc fanboy.

Well, not just because I'm a Malhavoc fanboy.

Hi-

Doing this aready in my realms campaign, Azathoth is on his way and with his approach, the realms slowly slips into maddness. Its up to the players to gather up the iron shards of entropy to stop Azathoth. Of course Azathoth might be thrown back to it's own cosmos, but the realms, after putting all the shards together, might not be..........

Or I can run an epic campaign using the Masks of nyarlethotep...........

1. Go buy When the Sky Falls.
2. Have the Lovecraftian Gods awake on Faerun.
3. Cthulhu and Co. then call down several huge astroids to Toril.
4. While all the Epic powerplayers are dealing with the great old ones Toril get pummeled by astroids.
5. To top it all off... the astroids and the remainders of their bits give off negative energy. Hello Day of the Dead...

:)

My suggestion (I've thought about doing something like this myself):

Evil epic level Druids. Control Weather is scary enough by itself; imagine it Epic-ized, boosted, and extended to cover most or all of the planet. Watch "The Day After Tomorrow", and imagine this sort of effect hitting the Realms instead of Earth.

Of course, this leaves the high level NPCs to either kill off or keep out of the way...

Go to your local comic shop and ask for the trade paperback collection of The Authority that reprints the "Earth Apocalypse" storyline. Substitute your favorite Realms bad guy (I'd use Larloch and his lich cadre) for the evil Doctor. This should keep the various Chosen and the like tied up, giving the Druids time to unleash their unrelate scheme. The battles involved would have the advantage of "pre-devastating" Waterdeep and other well-known locations before the weather even hits...

Whatever you do, have fun with it!

Great ideas!

One thing that I am worried about is the inevitable questions:

"What are the Chosen doing?"
"Isn't Elminster or Khelben doing something to stop this?"
"Can't we get the Harpers to help?"

..etc

Should the "big boys" (the Epic NPCs: Elminster, Larloch, Drizzt) be in the background taking care of business as best they can or should they be obliterated entirely? If obliterated, should it be done on-stage or off-stage?

I'm more for having some of the real big names (like Elminster) show up and try to help the PCs stop the coming chaos, then get obliterated right before their eyes. Other NPCs, like Wulfgar, Randal Morn, etc., could just get killed off-screen.

With all these great ideas, I'm not sure if I should just spring this all on my players next session. I REALLY want too, but at the same time, I think giving hints (unexplained attacks, strange omens, etc.) for the next few sessions may add to the mystery and the final surprise when all hell breaks loose.

The chosen who are not evil would be concerned with getting as many people to safety as possible. Then they (or some) would be overwhelmed trying to stave off the destruction from whatever and either killed outright, or shunted off to another plane where they would have to either fight to survive and get free or die.

Don't kill Elminster - that's overdone. :) Instead, kill Khelben, Laeral, and ALL of the NPC's in Waterdeep (Large meteor strikes JUST west of Waterdeep, massive tsunami WIPES THE CITY CLEAN, as well as Baldur's Gate and any city within a hundred miles of the Sword coast).

In an event that big, there are certainly repercussions. The priests of Eldath, Akadi, Selune, and Chauntea would all fall down screaming, as the voice of their goddeses crying out in pain over the massive destruction and altering of the environment, as well as loss of some of their greatest temples (in the case of Selune). Priests of Umberlee would get an unsettling feeling, as if they had just seen their mothers get beaten in front of them. Priests of Kossuth would feel a sudden rush of Power, and priests of Grumbar and Chauntea would feel punched in the gut; etc. etc. Mages with teleport gates on the sword coast would notice massive backlashes in magic on their gates. The sky would be lit with fire and then a massive mist for miles east of the Sword Coast, as well as the minor earthquake felt as far as the Dalelands, and and sudden west to east waves in the Sea of Fallen Stars. The Roads to Icewind Dale would be destroyed, causing massive trade problems, etc.

Have Elminster finally slip into madness, as people have been hinting all these years. The remaining Major NPC's (Alustriel, Symbul, etc.) have their hands full trying to clean up not only the disaster, but all the unfinished business that these worthies have left behind.

Then, have a disaster (Evil Adventurer-hunting squad) start picking off all those second string NPC's that the Big Boys would turn to. If you are an active adventurer, word on the "street" is you are getting snuffed by a squad of 50 mid to high level Drow / Githyanki / Slaadi / whatever.

THEN turn the real plot loose and tell the PC's through Alustriel or whomever "you're on your own." :D

It seems to me that the FR landscape if rife with the forces you need to tear the world apart. There are Epic level forces in just about every town and region. My only wonder is that they havent' torn eachother and the world apart long ago. Get Thay, the Zhents, and the Drow on the warpath at the same time. Have Halaster finally flip out. That whole campaign is work to keep them outta a Final War if you ask me. Get a demon prince to throw a match on the oily rags of diplomacy that keep everyone from eachothers throats.

Another idea I always wanted to pull off is having the generally outta the way Mind Flayers(or drow or an alliance of sorts) come up with a plan to extinguish the sun. Perhaps lay down a permanent eclipse. Then the illithids can come out and play. I'd definitely have one as an Epic caster leading a ritual of other very powerful Illithid casters to run the ritual. The drow could also finally come to the surface with entire cities disappearing in the first few "days" before the surface world gets their act together and starts to offer organized resistance. Waterdeep would be somewhat protected by Halasters undermountain and so would become a stronghold. The denizens of the underdark could have a pact and a great underworld alliance can spring forth from almost anywhere, having worked long and in secret to dig tunnels to the choicest, least defended parts of the surface. The resulting war could be utterly ruinous.

The gods of the sun and moon would be rendered much weaker as the might of the spell sets even their own believers and physical manifestations against one another. Blame could fly further confounding the efforts of the surface to organize against the evil from below.

Well that is how I was going to get rid of Waterdeep.
