Help me destroy the Forgotten Realms!

Priests of Umberlee would get an unsettling feeling, as if they had just seen their mothers get beaten in front of them. Priests of Kossuth would feel a sudden rush of Power, and priests of Grumbar and Chauntea would feel punched in the gut; etc. etc.

"I feel as if a billion voices had cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened."

Something like that, eh?

My suggestion is a Dragonstar Universe invasion.

Heh. Nothing says 'Game Over, Man' like orbital nuclear bombardment.

All the gods decide to punish one of the evil gods. (Bane? Pick one) They strip him of power and cast him down to earth. When doing that however, he warps the curse and cuts off the world from the rest of the gods. He hangs out in the north for a while before covering the world in Shadow. :)

If you have ever read War Against the Chtorr the earth is being overrun by a more powerful alien ecology.

I had a nasty one I wanted to spring one day. Basically, every gate suddenly opens into the Far Realm. And stays open. That much madness leaking into the world might be overkill. Unless you like half the party going crazy each session. YMMV :)

Put two Spheres of Annihilation right next to each other. Run.

Speaking of the spheres, I set up an adventure for my players to retrieve what they thought was an 'artifact', the Talisman of the Spheres. They were hired by a shadowy secretive Mages guild. The kicker is, that one of the characters is a wizard, and he KNEW what the Talisman was, and what it was for yet they did not ask any questions of their employer. I thought that was just a little out of character for these characters, but that's okay. Someday they will find out why someone wanted it :heh:

If you want a canon way of doing it, get the "Lords of Darkness" supplement, which details many different evil organizations in the realms.

Then have them all start suceeding at their various nefarious schemes.

The lost Netheril city of Shade (with their multiple epic level leaders) begins attacking the cities and kingdoms that border on the Anauroch desert. This ties up (or flat out kills) most of the epic level NPC's the region.

The Phaerim escape from their prison, and lead a horde of abberations out of the Anauroch, annihilating whichever kingdom they decide to make their home in.

The Zhentarim split between the Cyric worshipers of Darkhold and the Bane worshipers of the rest of Black Network. The Bane worshipers make an alliance with city of Shade, and aid them in their conquests. The Cyric worshipers begin guerilla warfare against everyone, and gain control of some powerful artifact that actually makes them a threat.

The Red Wizards also make an alliance with the City of Shade and the Zhentarim. This "Axis of Evil" initiates a Realms-wide war, with the Phaerim/Sharn conflict causing even more disruption.

The Cult of the Dragon converts a powerful dragon to their beliefs, and the newly created Dracolich Lord uses them to carve out a kingdom, with monster troops backed by high level necromancers and dracoliches. (Or have them come into power after the other factions have reduced the world to ashes, making their dark prophecy come true.)

While all this is going on, the Kir-Lanan discover or create the Ur-Priest class, and start an organized campaign to kill alll the clerics and worshipers of a specific deity, while making it look like internal struggles within the church are causing the problems. Eventually they weaken the god enough to kill it, and absorb it's power into an artifact. Using the artifact, they learn the location of the Tablets of Fate, and eventually they manage to steal them, which leads to a second Time of Troubles.

Naturally this causes even more massive disruption in the midst of the war started by the city of Shade and the Zhentarim. The Kir-Lanan begin hunting vulnerable deities with their newly acquired power, draining them into prepared artifacts. Eventually Ao steps in, and manages to stop them (probably with the aid of the PC's), but is mortally wounded in the process.

The Time of Troubles ends, but most of the gods are dead, and all the most powerful NPC's are dead. Almost all of the familiar kingdoms are in ashes, and the very geography has been altered by the war. The Cult of the Dragon is the strongest organization left...

Great ideas everyone!

In my campaign, the players are playing around 1367 or so, between the events in the 2nd Ed. FR and the FRCS. Shade has yet to arrive and King Azoun still lives, with Tilverton still standing.

Here are the power groups or natural disasters I am going to use or contemplating incorporating:

Kir-Lanan
Slaad
Female Half-Fiend Epic Level Wizard/Archmage
Multiple Meteor Strikes
Tidal Waves
Flight of Dragons
Fiends: devils, demons
Demonlords/Devil (Lords)?
Tarrasque(s)
Iron Throne
Church of Shar

I don't want to use too much canon, since I see this as an opportunity to go "crazy" with changing the "canon" of the Realms.

When I start my next campaign, I will definately try to stay true to more canon though.

I'm still thinking about the adventure outline for next session, this coming Wednesday. I will post it when I have a rough draft.

mmm. . . tarrasques. :)
use the "kaiju" article from dragon #289 and have a whole bunch of colossal monsters run amok. substitute waterdeep for tokyo and have a FR godzilla movie. but with a happy ending for the monsters. :D

Have a cult ressurrect Moander and have him slowly corrupt the world's lifeforce energies/magic etc...You could really mess over Mystra with this..(turn her evil and nasty if you wanted to)

GNOMISH
INDUSTRIAL
REVOLUTION

GIR! or IR for the insiders! Creamy, feed them the links baby :p Or the IR threads (and thats like 30 of them) can be found in the Archives, just search by views in ascending order I believe.
