Help me fix my ethernet please!

I have managed to get the drivers I need, I think, and my computer no longer has a yellow ! next to the ethernet card when I check on it in Device Manager. However, I still cannot log onto my college's network.

3. Type 'ipconfig /all' and press enter.

I didn't quite know how to interpret this. I tried running winipcfg, and saw that it only lists a basic PPP, and doesn't mention my ethernet card at all.

If I remember correctly, when you use winipcfg, a box pops up displaying the PPP properties, if the PPP adapter is installed. there should be a dropdown menu to select the 3COM adapter. It's easy to overlook if your frustrated

Is your school using domains? is the domain name entered properly? When you say you can't log into the network, are you getting any sort of error message?

Good catch on the dropdown, 2d6. I'd forgotten about that.

IP address, gateway and DNS are platform-independent -- it shouldn't matter whether you are running Windows 98, Mac, Unix, or whatever. IP is pretty much IP.
