Help me plan my SW marathon

Shoot, I was planning to post the same question, except with a more provocative title, like "What is the CORRECT order to watch Star Wars?"

I was actually thinking about what order to introduce them to somone (e.g., my kids) who hasn't seen them before. The big problem I see with watching them numerically is that, since you know Luke is Anakin's son, the impact of Vaders revelation to Luke at the end of V is lost or significantly reduced. On the other hand, if you watch in release order, then, as you said, you already know how the whole thing ends.
If I was going to show them to someone for the first time, I'll change my answer to simply: the original trilogy then the prequels. I wouldn't want to rob anyone of one of the great movie twists of all time. Just wouldn't be right.

I agree with this. If I was planning a SW marathon at home for guests that have all seen Star Wars I would view the prequel and then the original series. If I knew someone would be there who had never seen the original trilogy then I would start with the original trilogy and then view the prequel.

For someone who's seen all movies, I-VI is the way to go.

For someone new, either IV,V,I,II,III,VI or I-VI.

But I'd be inclined to recommend I-VI. The twist in ESB is great, but so much of the OT becomes so much more poignant after watching the prequels, particularly ROTS. Luke gazing at the binary sunset on Tatooine, the destruction of Alderaan, Obi-Wan and Vader's duel on the Death Star, Luke rushing off to rescue his friends instead of completing his Jedi training, and two BIG ones: A black hooded Luke strolling into Jabba's palace Mustafar bunker-style and Vader watching Palpatine electrocuting another fallen Jedi, once again having to decide which side he was on.

Yeah, I'd go I-VI. We love the original twist in ESB but imagine how shocking ROTS must be to someone who *doesn't* know what happens in advance. Imagine the elation when Yoda survives the Jedi Purge or shock at Anakin's turn and subsequent actions, and ultimate scarring and transformation.

Man I can't wait to watch the entire saga on DVD myself.
