Help me to kick lots of ass

Tom Cashel

First Post
I'll be playing a one-shot (or two-shot) this weekend with some old buddies in Colorado. I'm an old hand at D&D but fairly new to 3rd Ed., and apparently I'm allowed to make up a 19th level character, all classes & Prestige classes allowed, needs to be "elf-friendly," and any Feats from the various splatbooks are fair game.

What's the most kick-ass combo you can point me toward?

Thanks all,
Tom

Elf friendly? I'd say stick with an elven wizard.

It's about as 2e/1e as you can get. You get to ignore all of the multiplie attacks, attack of opportunity, five foot steps, and the other new 3e things that take a little getting used to, and just do good ol' spellcasting with individual descriptions for the way every spell works, not to mention, a lot of them work very similar to the way they always have.

19th level simple wizard, 32 pt buy.

20 starting intelligence (be a sun elf from the Forgotten Realms or a Grey Elf from the Monster Manual)

+4 from levels 4, 8, 12, and 16
(+2 from the spellcasting prodigy feat, again, if you have access to the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting)
+6 from a circlet of intellect +6
----
30 (32) intelligence wizard, this means you'll have a lot more spells to cast per day, and they'll be harder to resist.

Spell Focus in Transmutation for Slow, Polymorph Other, Disintegrate, etc

and Spell Focus in Evocation for getting the most bang for your area of effect spells not to mention a fun occasional Otiluke's Resilent Sphere that works beautifully on heavily armored types (too slow to get out the way)

Skill Focus in spellcraft is a waste but allows you to qualify for the Archmage prestige class which with the number of levels you have, can give you +6 total to your spell DC's, and caster level checks to penetrate spell resistance. Highest possible reccomendation.

Keep going with archmage and pick up mastery of shaping for point blank non-friendly-fire horrid wiltings or the ranged ability for no-saving-throw vampiric touches at range.

This is really all you need for a truly shining high level character, that and a lot of forethought into what you will do in what situation with what spell.

There are more details to add, but putting them in yourself will help you know the character better.

Okay, I've got my pimp hat on and my frenzied berserker buddies are waiting in the wings... :)

Thanks for the comprehensive reply, Jeremy! I've actually been DMing 3E for about 10 mos., but the characters are only up to about 8th lvl, and we only play once a month. Wizards...them I'm good at. I was also considering a straight-up 19th level elf monk.

But I like the idea of elf Wiz/Acm with a circlet of intellect......

EDIT: Did I mention I have 83 points to spend on ability scores, and that's before the bonus points at 4th, 8th, etc.?

Elf-friendly??!!

Does this mean that when you prepare the elves for dinner, you make sure that they're dead before you skin them?

Elf friendly . . . I've never heard such a nauseating term . . .

Hmph.

Elf friendly . . . I've never heard such a nauseating term . . .

Thri-kreen are really elf-friendly. They love inviting them to dinner.

Actually, thri-kreen really love the smell of a frightened or running elf, due to the pheromones the elf produces when they do those things. Guess what an elf usually does when it meets a thri-kreen... and the kreen is much faster than the elf.

No seriously, I think elf-friendly means a class that the elf is good at. So nothing that requires a high Con or usually wears heavy armor - I've never seen an elf wear full plate. Also, elf-based PrCs, like Ancestral Avenger, Arcane Archer, etc, count as elf-friendly.

What the DM Means by "Elf-Friendly"

Okay, what they mean by "elf-friendly" is that they've been playing an elfocentric campaign in the FR for a number of years, all elven knights and wizards and such, and they've spent some time on Evermeet (I think)...

...so "elf-friendly" means don't make a drow character, or a half-orc, or anything like that. I happen to think the role-playing might be more interesting if I could make some kind of character that elves don't like, especially since I'll only be around for one session.

But I'm not the DM for this one.

Thri-kreen.......why I oughtta.... ;)

How to kick a lot of ass.....

Everytime that you need to attack take these steps....

1) make your attack roll

2) punch your DM in the face

3) ask if you hit

4) if your DM says no rinse and repeat

5) when your DM says yes roll damage

6) punch your DM in the face

7) ask if its dead

8) if DM says no repeat

I'ld try a couple of levels of rogue, max out the exotic weapons master and fill in with weapon master

or

Try going with Wizard and taking some levels of archmage

or

Cleric/divine disciple/heirophant

or

Deepwood Sniper/assasin

rogue/duelist/ninga of crescent moon/assasin

monk/druken master

rogue/fighter/ninga of crescent moon/shadow dancer
