Chaotic to the extreme, gas dragons are as likely to become a terror of several lands, as it is to become a benevolent ruler.
Gas Dragons are born with dark yellow glossy scales, that lighten and take on a metallic sheen as the dragon ages, as the dragon matures the scales on it's sides and wings develop splotches in different colors, usually pink, cyan, light blue, and other light colors. The dragons eyes shift in all the colors of the rainbow, with yellow and orange being the predominant colors.
Gas dragons prefer to lair in isolated locales within a days flight from caravan routes, shipping lanes, or large settlements. They have a weakness for the flesh of wilderbeast and other large grazing mammals, and prefer to lair close to the habitat of such creatures.

Combat:
Even in combat a gas dragon is chaotic, being just as likely charge their opponents as they are to cast a spell or use their breathweapon. Their tactics change constantly, but they try to use their innat abilities to the greatest effect possible.
Breathweapon (Su): A gas dragon has two breathweapons, a cone of corrosive (acid) gas that deals the listed damage, and a cone of gaseous form, anyone caught in the latter must make a fortitude save at the listed DC or be affected as by the gaseous form spell for a number of rounds equal to 3 plus the dragons age category.
Gas Immunity (Ex): Gas dragons completely ignores the effects of cloud spells, poison gases, and other effects of gas. They are still affected by the reduced line of sight from gas and cloud spells however, but their blindsight usually cancles this out.
Obscuring Mist (Sp): A cloud dragon can use this ability as the spell with the same name, once per day per age category.
Other Spell-like abilities: 3/day - Murderous Mist, and Stinking Cloud; 1/day - Acid Fog and Cloudkill.

Ha, Ha, very cute... No seriously, what do you think of it, is it balanced, overpowered, or weak compared to other dragons?

For those who are keeping track, it's an ordinary dragon (second catagory of dragons, the first being lesser dragons, the third greater dragons, and the fourth epic dragons).

Compare it to the bronze, blue and green dragons. Better or worse?

Hehe, these dragons make great ways to torment high level fighters.

I had a fighter "stuck" for several rounds with a young adult.

"Make your save, oh you failed no longer solid, your body and equipment has become gasus (?)"

Well back to sucking down asprin and cold pills. I hate being sick.

Cerubus Dark: I'm glad you like it, I myself am going to introduce an advanced great wyrm gas dragon in my campaign called Draconus Rex. An emperor style dragon, whose main problem is that he's to greedy... But then again my players are on a good way to the epic levels (3 more levels and they're level 21...)

Any other comments?

Noxious Fumes

Don't snicker at methane. Remember, that's the same gas that collapses mine tunnels and makes open flames explode. Too much of it will make you pass out, too. Also, methane in purest form is mostly odorless, and it is colorless.
Imagine a Dragon that coughs out a big thick cloud of that, and then when everyone is reeling around all woozy and/or passing out from lack of oxygen, spits a little tiny fireball in the middle...

About the Gas Dragon: I like the idea, and I particularly like the business of something like that being imperious. "Knave! Dare you disobey me." (introduce gaseous form) "Now, obey me or I inhale you, you cur."
This also fits with my idea that this Dragon is far more suited for defensive scenarios. I picture it as being the sort of opponent who sets up hurdle after hurdle, and forces foes to pursue it rather than charging in and dealing with them directly.

I'd say not as nasty as some of the other 'ordinary' Dragon types, but definitely still in the running.

Misshappen: Well, that was the intention of the gas dragon, also, it's in it's nature to either rule nations or destroy them, and as ruler's they're quite fickle (hand over your gold, or i'll turn you into a cloud...). Also they are smart enough to build complex traps, and thy're definetly more defensive than most other dragons. (Save ofcourse the xenophobic sapphires.)

It really bugs me that none of the Gem dragons are greater dragons, it sucks.
