Owyn and Theremin realize that if these people came here during the civil war, they likely don’t know about the peace that was signed twenty-eight years ago and the new normal in the former empire, now three different nations. It is also apparent that there are very few left who actually fought in the war. Most seem to have been born here in the Shadowfell.

Salor Dawnwhisper, the aged elf, studied Mindra when she stated the war was over and peace had come. “How is this possible?” he wondered. “Can it be true? We had despaired of winning our freedom. Please, tell me more. You must join me for supper, and you may stay safe here in the village for the night,” the elf said, motioning to the young people that had brought the adventurers to him. “We will have what food and drink this cursed land provides,” he said. “And you may ask me what questions you wish.”

Owyn barely remembered the story of the war which his father and grandfather had fought in. They'd both earned some distinction for themselves. But in the end, the subject was like any other acedemia to him, so he decided to simply stay quiet as anything he said seemed to upset the elf. And this conversation seemed to be taking a turn for the positive.

"Thank you for your generous offer," Mindra says with a smile. "We would be happy to join you for supper, and a place to rest would be wonderful. Our trip to this place has not been uneventful."

OOC: Mindra follows Salor to wherever the meal is being served. She will also pull out some of her rations to share with her hosts. Rations might not be the best food, but it might at least offer a welcome change from what they are able to get from the "cursed land". She will also start filling in the history that they have missed since they left the material plane.

Intelligence History check: 1D20+1 = [2]+1 = 3

Which apparently Mindra is horrible at! LOL

So if anyone else is able to correct her horrible history lesson and take over the story telling she would be happy to let them do so. Mindra will freely admit she is rubbish in history. She is being honest at this point and will try to refrain from just making stuff up, which would be her first impulse if someone else doesn't want to take over.

Also want to apologize for being absent for so long. I will be checking back more often again.

The meal consisted heavily of various fungi. There was some kind of meat that wasn’t too bad, though it had a bit of an aftertaste for those not used to it, and a few leafy vegetables of some sort, a bit like some kind of dark purple spinach. Nothing of it was particularly flavorful. Mindra’s shared rations went over better. Salor and the other natives at the table were exceedingly grateful for food from the prime world, even if it was just dried meats, dried fruits, and nuts.

Salor listened intently to Mindra’s recounting of the history, but it was clear he was confused in trying to follow. “So Essus and Helveki are free, and Paladine has returned?” he asked in awe. The younger ones at the table, however, just looked confused.

After dinner, the party was shown to a hut where they could sleep for what passed as night here in the Shadowfell, though it was hard to tell, as the light only dimmed slightly in this not so bright world, but it seemed the village was settling down.

OOC: You have time for a long rest. You don’t necessarily need to set watches since you are in the village, but you may if you like. Or you may do anything you like during the night. Otherwise you can get in a long rest and open up again with the next morning, whatever you would like to do.

After dinner, the party was shown to a small hut they could use to sleep for the night. The small settlements residents found new clothes for Beturea, getting her out of her ragged old dress she had worn in the kobold prison, and also found her some armor and a weapon other than the kobold dagger she carried.

Sleep was...adequate, if not too restful, plagued as it was by strange, even frightening, dreams, and the chill of the place just seemed hard to shake, no matter how many blankets or furs one piled up.

When the party woke, it was hard to tell how long they’d slept. The dim light was the same as it had been when they’d gone to bed. From the sounds of the village, it seems they might have slept in. A basket with flatbread, mushrooms, and some kind of fruit had been left in the door of their hut for breakfast.

As the party was finishing preparing for the day, Beturea fitting into the new breastplate and rapier, a horn sounded, and shouting filled the village. From a distance could be heard the sound of weapons clashing.

Theremin promptly woke, and started talking to his companions about the great deeds they had performed in the tower, and the great deeds awaiting them.

OOC: use of the inspiring leader feat, everyone including Berurea gets 8 temp hp


He ate hungrily, when he heard the fighting, said: “Come friends, let us be good guests and help our hosts
He gathered his gear and looked out the door to get a better idea of what was going on

There seemed to be attackers in various locations around the village, though most were somewhere near the river. The most activity seemed to be concentrated around some pens containing animals.

“Imperial scum,” Theramin caught as several village fighters rushed passed. “You think that those Imps we let in last night are helping them?”

Feeling adequately inspired after her breakfast and Theremin's pep-talk, Mindra jumps to her feet at the sound of battle. "I think it is time to repay our hosts for their hospitality."

OOC: Mindra will poke her head out of the hut and try to get an idea of what the situation is outside. If it looks like she can move around and find a reasonable place where she can hide and shoot arrows from, she will do that, but she won't go too far from the rest of her group.

Mindra sees that not much fighting has gotten into the center of the village. While there are scattered encounters around the perimeter wall, the biggest concentration of the fighting seems to be at the gates and near the animal pens and the river. Mindra could definitely find places to shoot from in either location.

OOC: You can basically pick your encounter here. The opponents are relatively the same. If you choose to help defend the walls at some point, it will be an Easy encounter. The fighting at the gates is a Medium encounter. The fighting at the pens is a Hard encounter. You don’t have to pick just one. If you want to, you can help at one place, then run to another and help there. We can string encounters along as long as you’d like. Theremin thinks out loud :”Imperials? So the attackers also think the war hasn’t ended! We need to find the commanders and convince them...

OOC: Is there any way he can tell where the leadership of the attackers is?

As to where to go and help, I’m all for starting with the hardest, but I’m open to going for an easy win first, to prove to the villagers that we are not ennemies

Mindra takes up a position to cover the area while her friends exit the hut, and is ready to follow whichever way the rest of the group heads.

OOC: Insight check: 1D20+6 = [5]+6 = 11
I guess I am open for any of the options, the Walls or gates may allow for a quicker win and then bring reinforcements to the pens. On the other hand those reinforcements might be too late if the resistance at the pens gets overwhelmed. Really though Mindra will wait to follow the more front line fighters so she can sneak attack whoever they are fighting. :)
