Essess/Bredonshire/Timberhand Logging Camp

The adventurers passed the morning uneventfully, perhaps helping around the camp a bit as the women and those not out working pack up. Shortly before highsun, the lumberjacks file back into camp. The midday meal is ready for them, and by the time they are done, another troop of workers have arrived for their rotation at the camp. Some of the departing workers jump onto rafts of logs shoved into the river and begin to ride the swift, cold water downstream toward Bredon. The rest, along with the adventurers, troop out the gate on the dirt road back to town.
The walk takes hours, but the day doesn’t get too hot, and breaks are as needed, the peoples strung along the road in small groups, the atmosphere upbeat. The sun is low by the time they return to Bredon.
The air in town has that minor festive feely the adventurers felt in Timberhand. In fact, tables have been set out in the town center, and residents are beginning to bring out food. An impromptu little band has formed, as well, and a few of the younger men and women are dancing, while the men are piling up scrap wood from the mill for a bonfire.
Standing court over the gathering festivities on the porch of the Sawtooth Inn is Reeve Omri Bine, tapping his cane impatiently on the floor, flanked by Prelate Edyna Tinroth of the Paladine church and Sister Taichi Lejoti of the Dawn Church. At the foot of the steps stands Sergeant Alene Belyr, the half-elf head of the town’s small contingent of the People’s Army. Other town guards lounge around the green, or mingle with the people. None appear all that vigilant, and the adventurers know there just aren’t that many actual professional soldiers belonging to the guard anyway.
Across the way, seated on the steps of the common hall, sat Sir Ghaves Ledet leaning on his cane, a little knot of citizenry around him, as well, a sort of informal anti-court to the coterie of citizens around the reeve. Bine glared at the older man, though Ledet didn’t seem to notice.
What the old man did notice, however, was the arrival of the adventurers, with his granddaughter. With a little shout of glee that belied his former nobility, the old man pushed himself up with surprising spryness and hustled over to meet Irene, who ran up and hugged her grandfather tightly.
“Oh, thank you! Thank you!” Sir Ledet said, tears in his eyes. “You don’t know how much this means!”
