OOC: Mindra only lost temp HP, so she is good on that front. The -3 strength will just have to wait until she gets some sleep.

As we approach the village Mindra will put her bow down on the deck right next to her so that it is out of sight, but can be grabbed easily if she needs it.

Despute being fairly charismatic in general, Owyn is't actually trained in any skills relevant to the situation. Thus, he sheaths his sword and stands ready, though he keeps his shield out for now, standing close to Butrea lest they be attacked again.

Bows were drawn as the keelboat approached the river shore, and Crimsyn and Alet busied themselves bringing in the sail, weapons sheathed, but at hand. No one fired, however.

“We come to parley,” Crimsyn told the Imperial villagers, “and bring outsiders with news.”

“Outsiders?”
a woman scoffed, then spat. Her arm was bandaged, but she still held a sword. “I recall seeing these fight beside you this morning.” Many of those gathered to greet them had bandaged wounds, clearly part of the raiding party that morning.

[OOC=Set up]Your boat uses the Keelboat stats and figure in Saltmarsh. It’s 60’ x 20’ with a 20x10 foot cabin aft and a ballista in the prow (+6 to hit; 3d10 piercing damage). There are 8 shadows about 20 feet away from the boat.

"We fought to save lives, theirs and yours. The captain of your attack forced us to kill him, though many others were captured alive."

Changing his mind, Owyn speaks up afterall. He adjusts his shield to show off the heraldry upon it's surface, though much of it was worn off through the fighting he'd done.

"I am a servant of the Empire, and though I am here in no official capacity, I can tell you that the war you fight has long ended."

Theremin is first surprised by Owyn’s atypical loquaciousness. He nods in agreement to the warrior’ comments and adds: “Indeed, your brothers in arms can attest that we offered to parlay on multiple occasions. The captain was a brave man an worthy warrior that didn’t want to listen, but we brought back your companions that can confirm that we sought to avoid unnecessary deaths.” Taking a breath for this to sink in, theremin continues “what my friend here is saying is true, the war ended years ago and there is peace now. I can sing you many songs about the end of the war; it was a cause of great celebrations.”

There was a murmur of surprise when Owyn showed his heraldry, matching their own battle standards. Crimsyn and Alet brought out their two prisoners and freed them as a show of good faith.

“We brought supplies as well for the parley,” Crimsyn said, as weapons were lowered at Theremin and Owyn’s wods.

“So the Empire crushed those rebel Essian scum and those Helvekian traitors?” someone called out.

Weapons were lowered warily, but it was clear that these shadowfell refugees were surprised and interested at the news and wanted to talk to these outsiders.

“It is late, and you have traveled far,” an older man said, and there were few of these in the camp to be seen, much like back in Crimsyn and Alet’s camp, where most were younger. Like them, many of these villagers had the marks of living here for so long, plaid to grey skin, dark hair and eyes, and many wore the same tattoos, ritual scars, piercings, and painful cilices as had those in the other village. “I suppose you’ll be wanting to see Ulfgar Balderk then? You can tell him your tale in the morning.”

The gates were opened, and they were led inside and put up in a large house for the night, with armed guards posted, but otherwise were unmolested, if they wished to rest, and food was brought, the same pale, strange vegetables and some kind of pale fish, mostly bland, like the fare at the other village, though filling.

OOC: If you want to rest, you can get a long rest. You will recover all your strength as well as your hit points and spells. And everyone needs to roll a Wisdom save.

Theremin sighs in relief quietly, glad that these folks are willing to listen. He looks at the village and thinks to himself “we may save all of you yet, and not loose our own skin!

He hen proceeds to eat, rest and observes as much as possible. During the evening he flirts with Crymsin, and tries to learn why so many people wear cilices.

Crimsyn is more than open to Theremin’s flirting. When he inquires about the cilices, she takes hers off, showing the sharp points that press into her skin when she wraps it around her arm. It would be painful.

“We live in the land of the dead,” Crimsyn explained. “This place presses down on you. The pain -- and pleasure,” she smiles at Theremin and kisses him heartily, “ground you, remind you that you’re alive, and not some dead shade.”

If Theremin proves amenable, Crimsyn goes well beyond flirting, and beds him aggressively, proving a most voracious lover, definitely leaving him marked with bites, bruises, and scratches

Theremin wakes up in a cold sweat, in a severe state of dread. He has disadvantage on all saving throws and gains the following flaw: “I am convinced that this place is going to kill me.”
