It definitely looks like an expandable set. Put out more classes, backgrounds and ancestries and I can definitely see picking it up, especially if an expansion tosses in another map or two and another adventure booklet. (Cave of the Unknown is right there, WotC!)

Does it say anywhere if you can level? I read through it but maybe I missed it. More interested to see if they do 3 or 5 levels.

I mean it say 60 hours of Adventure so roughly 12 sessions which would be 3rd the way I give XP but I think im the exception.

It's not clear:

Each class's board teaches essential game mechanics using tactical elements, such as Hit Points and spell slot tokens, or equipment and spell cards. It also empowers players to make meaningful choices as their character grows and discovers new gear.

"Their character grows" suggests leveling to me, but it could be applied to just getting better equipment and learning new spells off of scrolls.

I previewed the box set at GenCon. Each class has two boards, one which has level 1 on one side and level 2 on the other, and the second board with level 3.

I only did the 20 minute demo to see it in action. Was a simple bandit encounter in the woods, nothing too exciting. But the player cards were easy to read and the monster ones are well layed out. All in all it felt like playing D&D, just made more accessible.

What’s scary is this is still probably one of the best d&d adventures and the formula is very simple and yet none of the new writers can come close to it. 46 years!!!

Any 12 year old could write it in an afternoon. Professional writers don’t get paid for doing that.

Sounds like all the companies need to hire 12 year olds as it’s way more fun than almost every new wotc etc adventure published in the last few years

Or you could just write it yourself. You don’t need a professional writer if you like your D&D bare bones simplistic.
