I was impressed to say the least. For a pilot, it was very entertaining. Yeah, I knew about all the powers beforehand but that's okay. I didn't have to watch the teasers.

Anywho, aside from showing it on NBC and running the pilot twice, they are showing the ep on USA, SFC & on the internet for download if you have the right computer - for free. I DL'ed Studio 60's episode 2 and Heroes. Good quality over a high speed connection. :)

On another note - the editing with the dad arriving home was fine. It doesn't take that long to get from NY to TX by plane, especially when you factor in that you gain an hour going west. And add in that he is obviously working for the government and probably has access to faster flights. :p

Yea, he can bypass security which is half the time needed anyway. :)

Hmmm... Personally, I thought it kind of sucked. I'll stick with the series a little while to see if it can evolve with more time.

The show just seemed like they felt like ripping off The 4400, but with no personality or suspense. At least the 4400 gave some time to each character before they started having weird effects happening. Now there's a whole 2-3 minutes before we find out what someone's superpower is. The only character I really liked was Hiro. "I like to cut myself girl" was really kind of annoying. Stripperella was the token pander-to-the-audience character. The geneticist... is studying teleportation genes? What the hell? Did he find teleporting bacteria or something?

I thought it was okay. I couldn't see parts of it because the channel doesn't come in strong here. Am I the only person who didn't know what any of the characters powers were before the ep? I know I missed some things with the web cam girl and her reflection because I couldn't see it. I don't like the actor playing the nurse guy who wants to fly. But I like Adrian Pasdar. The teaser for the second ep sure seemed spoilery.

Concerning the comparison to the 4400: I assume you're talking about the 2nd season? Because I just finished the 1st last night and that is not a show that is brimming over with personality. The first ep of 4400 was certainly no better than Heroes IMO.

He may have access to a private plane, or at least not have to wait for security checkthroughs (actually, those go hand in hand), but there's no way to legally cut the time in the air to much less than a commercial flight will give; it's not legal to fly supersonic over the mainland US, even if there were any aircraft in service that could do it (other than military fighters and research planes), and normal commercial jets fly at something over 80% of the speed of sound.

Adrian Pasdar is really the single beacon of hope that I have for this show (other than Hiro's comic relief). I loved him on Profit, which was way to good to be cancelled, but sadly was. The webcam girl storyline could be good as well... She was okay in Final Destination.

(Some spoilers in rest of post for episode... I'm assuming that's okay in this thread).

As for the comparison to 4400, it's not all that fair since the 4400 has had a lot more time to develop its characters. I can feel for the high school kid who somehow steals his brothers girlfriend. A black man from the fifties comes to the present... There's an intrinsic storyline that is set up there that you can relate to. Detective father who is out of touch with his kids. Been done before, and done since, but it's understandable.

But, somehow Heroes reminds me of a Mad TV sketch... Pretty White Kids with Problems. The characters don't seem real or human in any way. They seem like they're from the OC (even though they're in NYC). There's nurse guy who cares for rich old guy (who thinks he can fly for no reason other than he dreams alot). His brother is a big-time politician. His mother is a kleptomaniac. There's self-annihilation-seeking cheerleader... Why? She's apparently emo or something. But she likes to wear cheerleader outfits (probably so you know she's a cheerleader). Webcam mom is upset because she donated $25,000 to a private school so her 10 year old kid can learn to fix broken 'logic units' on circuit boards (huh?). Even though she is apparently $50k in the hole. Sure people have problems. But it's like the writers of the show played Madlibs to come up with their character's personality quirks.

I think that a comparison between The 4400 (which I love) and Heroes isn't really fair.

For one, as stated before, 4400 will be entering its fourth season next summer, Heroes only has one pilot. So I really don't feel it's fair to compare the two on that basis alone.

On a second note, I feel the stories are completely different. The 4400 is really a story about what happens to the pseudo-real world when people get special powers. It's less about the powers themselves and more about the politics, especially during the third season.

Heroes seems to be a straight up super-hero story, ala X-Men.

Both shows feature people developing super-powers and learning to control them, but aside from that the mid- to end-story seems radically different.

I don't know what Profit was. I've liked him since Near Dark though. Final Destination! I knew I recognized her from something. Hated that movie.

Heh. Nah. Heroes doesn't have Will Sasso (of course, neither does Mad TV anymore).

There's self-annihilation-seeking cheerleader
Am I the only one that didn't get a suicidal vibe from the cheerleader? It seemed like she was bothered by her power (Boo hoo, now I can't have a normal life), and testing her limits, but not particularly suicidal or even all that self-destructive.

Maybe instead of going into chargen with a concept, they rolled the dice and built the characters from the rolls :)

I didn't get a suicidal vibe so much as a cutting vibe. There's no indication that she doesn't feel pain from the injuries, just that she always heals afterwards. Really kinda creepy.
