It says in the book in the class chapter what the roles of the upcoming classes are.



So it has a table with the classes in both books. He isn't making this up.

I'm very very very happy with the idea that classes are no longer strictly married to roles.

I never doubted what you wrote because it just didn't seem implausible to me in any way. If the slayer wasn't an alternative striker build of the fighter I would have wondered, but now essentials isn't afraid to make classes entirely different roles it was just a natural fit to me. The druid being the leader made absolute sense and so it wasn't something I felt was made up.

And if the Hexblade is just a warlock path, that bums me out.

Because they can stick a huge "ESSENTIALS" in front of it and avoid any confusion or conflicts in the CB easily I imagine.
