Hey look another Highlander movie

So after the rousing success of the last highlander movie on Sci-Fi (since it doesn't come accross well that was heavily sarcastic) looks like some people got the bright idea to remake the first movie. The article doesn't explicitly state re-make but there is some further explanation in the comments bellow.

I suppose a remake is better than the continuing garbage that's been the last several movies - but even so I just can't see much good coming out of it (hope I'm wrong though).

I don't know... I've been seeing stuff about this, and who knows, it could be good. They've been doing well with remakes recently, so I'll reserve judgment until I see more of it. :)

I'm actually far more interested in a remake than in any further sequels. The idea is still sound and--and yes, I realize I'm about to get lynched ;)--I don't think the original has aged all that well.

(Which is a funny thing to say about a movie with this particular topic. ;))

I think, if it's done well--and the writing team suggests to me that it could be--that it may actually be worthwhile.

The only really great thing about the first movie was the Queen Theme Song. The rest of the movie was average at best. So there are far worse candidates for a remake.

I have given up being surprised at Hollywood remaking movies though. I suspect they ran out of ideas about 10 years ago.

(insert your own "There can be only one!" joke here)

I suppose the people who own the property figure there are a few Highlander fans out there they haven't completely disgusted.

I saw The Source recently and it was pretty disappointing. And disappointing, because there was some actual potential there that was ruined. Ruined by pointless fight scenes, yet another too-weird villain, poor acting (especially when I know damn well Paul and Wingfield can do better), and a whole setting that didn't make a hell of a lot of sense.

It's a shame too, because the whole idea of the Source was intriguing. If they had oh, I don't know, polished up the script a bit, and focused more on the whole mythology of the Source instead of putting in all that crap about cilivilization falling which contributed heavily to the movie's WTF factor and did little more than provide fodder for some cheesy fight scenes. I would have been more interested in learning about what the Immortals belive about the Source, and the idea that was raised that maybe the Immortals have some other purpose other than killing each other off.

Don't worry - if you're to be lynched, then you shall at least have me standing next to you looking flammable. I think the concept is so strong, that it's easy to overlook the mediocre acting of the first movie - I was surprised when I rewatched it a few years back, and was disappointed at how creaky it looked. A solid remake, done with love and care, could go a long way to restoring some merit to this franchise.

Well, I'm certainly not going to lynch you. I can't watch the original without giggling nonstop.

Now if only they get a Scot to play the Scot, and a Spaniard to play the Spaniard, and maybe a nice cameo for our ol' lad Mr. Connery.

I'm not sure he does cameos anymore. The last voice acting that he did was a while back too. Is he still in good enough shape for cameos?
