High Level Fighter Vs. High Level Barbarian

Well... earlier comparisons with spreadsheets (for the weirdo mathdudes here ;)) showed clearly that the fighter has nearly the same damage output thanks to his various Specialisation thingies than the barbarian in rage. But the Fighter still maintains the (usually highest of all core classes) higher AC.

And this AC problem doesn't even take into account the huge amount of feats which may grant the fighter an additional advantage against a single strong opponent while the barbarian usually has to be a one trick pony with the few feats he has.

Even with DR and 3.5 Power Attack I don't think the barbarian caught up in direct comparison.

Considering attribute distribution, there's no real advantage for either class. Fighters may need to take higher dex or int depending on their feat choice, but barbarians often want more skills, good will saves or good AC in medium armours... so it's comparable.

Ftr vs Brb

Don't think this can be answered easily.
I seriously think that the Fighter is the more versatile character for most combat situations, because of his heap of feats.

For a high level one-on-one, the Brbs rage and HP would perhaps be a match. And you don't need that much feats if you do not have to be versatile.

At high level, it also depends on the kind of equipment each one has chosen. And on the initiative roll.

Also, using only the PHB as source will benefit the Brb, as there will be fewer combinations of feats for the fighter.

Pretty hard to say way too much factors involved.

Does this help? 32 point buy. Race = Half Orc, Using anything from Core books, FR books, Complete Warrior, BoVD and BoED. Lvl 20 with an appropriate amount of gold for that level spent in items.

Aha...

No multiclassing I guess?
What about PrCs?

Sounds like a kind of contest :)

With only Brb or Ftr and PrCs. I'd place my bet on the Brb.

But I guess it comes down to win init-one hit kills...

Yeah thats a good way of looking at it. A contest to see who can create the more powerful warrior. I'm a little hesitant to include PrCs but i guess you can use them.
