High Level Fighter Vs. High Level Barbarian

Will Save is +5. (elven racial bonus).

Also, the warhorse wouldn't be affected by the hold person. It would continue to attack the barbarian. I agree it wouldn't to much damage to a high level barbarian, but the horse doesn't knew what level the gnome is. The horse just knows it out-weighs the gnome by 20 to 1.

Also, if the War horse had been a paladin's mount, things would have been very different. An intelligent mount would be busy sundering wands.

(I figure Ghengis' Will save is +3, correct?) Ghengis is under the influence of a Hold Person. Khan stumbles, confused, looking back at his master for direction.

I am confused, hold person? If this is 3.5 you guys are doing there is no reason to cast this even if the guys save was -1. He should be using tanglefoot bags or a wand of entangle or something like that. Next in line should be something like wand of enervation or the waves of fatigue. With enervaton and without very special gear on the part of the fighter the fight is already over.

Not that it matters, this is completely silly ;) No matter who wins it will prove nothing since we have the 'high hp expert or commoner' walking around out there..lol.. has he used anything even remotely from the barb class?

Just for heliopolix (not for combatants)
Hold person only works on humanoid creatures. He would have needed hold animal to use against the horse. Plus, the horse is just a stupid animal that follows its rider's commands. If the rider is held, the horse just sits there (unless it is a special mount).

You know, that is just way too obvious for me . Spell being called "Hold Person" and all... . I must have been thinking of Hold Monster.

Here's a barbarian I wrote up, if you're still interested in bringing a fighter Green Slime, or anyone else. Of course, we'll wait for the currrent combat to finish first.

***EDIT** un-spoilered and deleted everything but the potions. This is an expensive way to fight a single melee combatant, and it's pretty close to what the other "barbarian" did, although the char did use melee after he got done buffing. Updated char in post further down the page

Did the scent thign wrong anyway.. if they started 100' away and the horses normal movement is 65', it takes a double move to get to where he used to be... at which point he has no move actions left to use scent.

The confusion was that, if within 5' of the target, the scent ability does not specify if it takes any sort of action to use. It says you take a move action to determine the location of a target within 30', but you automatically pinpoint a creature within 5'. Mugly was within 5' of the horse when it finished moving.

The +5 instead of +3 would not have made a difference in this case.

I ruled that, even if the horse were to continue to attack, it would still be disoriented and confused by it's rider suddenly freezing, no signals, no voice, no nothing. Also, in same turn as the Hold spell went off, Mugly ceased to be within 5'. Khan would have to expend a move-action to determine his direction, but then not have enough actions left over to both approach him and attack.

Of course this match proves nothing. Doesn't mean it's not fun, though.

Mugly, your action has been noted.

Ghengis: You try to shake off the paralysis again. You succeed! (this time your elven bonus made the difference. Thanks for pointing it out). Post your action when you're ready.

Ride around on the horse again until we locate the Gnome. The horse should fine the gnome within a single move (65') then the horse does a single attack and Ghengis does a full attack.

Why does he get another action?

Hold Person
Enchantment (Compultion)[Mind-affecting]
Level: Brd 2, Clr 2, Sor/Wis 3
Casting Time: one standard action
Duration 1 round/level (D), see text
Saving Throw: Will; see text
Spell resistence: yes

The subject becomes paralyzed and freezes in place. It is aware and breathes normally but cannot take any actions, even speak. Each turn on its turn, the subject may attempt a new saving throw to end the effect. (This is a full-round action that does not provoke an attack of opportunity.)
A winged creature that is paralyzed cannot flap its wings and falls. A swimmer can't swim and may drown.
Arcane focus: a, small, straight peice of iron

So by my count, the most he could do is a free action
