I've been toying with the idea of a tempest fighter that wields a spiked shield and a parrying dagger as a way of maximizing the characters AC.
Now, I know that Tempest Fighters gain the Two Weapon Defence feat for free, and that this feat would not stack with the AC from the sheild. However, I was thinking that I could use the spiked shield to use powers that require a sheild, and further justify the choice by taking sheild specialization as soon as possible to increase the ac on the shield.
I also realize that most of the double weapons have the defensive property and would do much more damage than the parrying dagger, but I want to avoid using duel weapons as they don't fit the style of the character I'm invisioning, and I've heard they are a bit of a balancing issue.
All that said, the big flaw I see in this design is that I'm spending alot of weapon proficioncy feats on weapons that don't do as much damage and arn't as accurate as some of the other superior weapons. Right now, I can't realy tell weather these tradeoffs are worth it or not. If they arn't, I'll probably replace one or both of the weapons with a katar, but I wanted to hear opinions first.
