Higher Ground bonus gone?

You could rule that having high ground gives you Combat Advantage. If that's logical for you.

I don't know how exploitable that would be though... Rogues and such :/

Same with allies not providing cover to enemies. Kinda dumb imo.

Unrealistic, maybe. Dumb, no.

This, along with having no penalty for firing into melee allows, is a needed balance for the ranged attackers.

Any situation in which you feel that one creature has an advantage over another, simply give them Combat Advantage. Fixed.

Higher ground should only apply to Charge and Ranged attacks. Just standing toe-to-toe shouldn't get to use the bonus.

Your legs are the worst protected area of your body - less armour, parry, block, shields. If anything when higher toe-to-toe you should a penalty to AC.

A famous battle, can't remember the name, some soldiers waited under a bridge. When a knight/baron/earl/king or whatever went over they shoved spears up through his unprotected groin killing him. Just an example.

Imagine the guy fighting on the table. You think he has advantage over the guy fighting on the ground? Really? Who do you think can parry (or block with shield) the most easily? The guy on the table? Yeah right. It's easier to defend the upper body than the legs.

But the +1 isn't a defensive thing, it's an offensive thing. Who cares who can block or parry better. What matters is the person above you can hit you easier.

Or should we remove the Combat Advantage of someone who is prone, since they are lower than the person above them?

Higher Ground isn't mentioned as a condition granting combat advantage, and high ground isn't mentioned anywhere else in the PHB. The DMG might mention rules for high ground, but I doubt it, cuz I'm sure if it did confer bonuses it would be considered combat advantage. Apparently high ground just doesn't confer anything unless you wanna create a house rule, in which case combat advantage would be the simplest and most straightforward way of doing it. To be honest I was surprised to not see it listed a s a condition granting combat advantage.
