D&D 5E Hobbits of the land of the setting sun

So

Someone posted on facebook the infamous Lenoard Nemoy singing that silly hobbit song (see it here if you must https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGF5ROpjRAU )

So I don't know if it's because English is not my first language, or maybe simply I'm not blessed with good hearing, but I often have a hard time telling what the lyrics are in a song, unless I make a serious effort. So to me what I heard as the chorus was " BILBO! baggins BILBO! baggins, falalalala."

Of course this is annoying, especially if the song gets stuck in your head for a bit - so my brain sometimes tries to fill in the blank, in a sort of random, involuntary process. And what did it come with?: Bilbo! Baggins, Bilbo! Baggins, from the land of the setting sun.

As soon as that line hit my conciousness... boom, visions of hobbit samurais with bare feet enjoying pipe, pie and duels to the death filled my mind. Pastoral, friendly rural folks with *very* sharp swords welcoming you with friendly words... or lethal slashes. Woe to the orc who tries to snag one!

Here are the lyrics to that epic song just for you Ancalagon!! - lol

In the middle of the earth in the land of the Shire
Lives a brave little hobbit whom we all admire.
With his long wooden pipe,
Fuzzy, woolly toes,
He lives in a hobbit-hole and everybody knows him

Bilbo! Bilbo! Bilbo Baggins
He's only three feet tall
Bilbo! Bilbo! Bilbo Baggins
The bravest little hobbit of them all

Now hobbits are a peace-lovin' folks you know
They don't like to hurry and they take things slow
They don't like to travel away from home
They just want to eat and be left alone
But one day Bilbo was asked to go
On a big adventure to the caves below,
To help some dwarves get back their gold
That was stolen by a dragon in the days of old.

Bilbo! Bilbo! Bilbo Baggins
He's only three feet tall
Bilbo! Bilbo! Bilbo Baggins
The bravest little hobbit of them all

Well he fought with the goblins!
He battled a troll!!
He riddled with Gollum!!!
A magic ring he stole!!!!
He was chased by wolves!!
Lost in the forest!!!
Escaped in a barrel from the elf-king's halls!!!

Bilbo! Bilbo! Bilbo Baggins
The bravest little hobbit of them all

Now he's back in his hole in the land of the Shire,
That brave little hobbit whom we all admire,
Just a-sittin' on a treasure of silver and gold
A-puffin' on his pipe in his hobbit-hole.

Bilbo! Bilbo! Bilbo Baggins
He's only three feet tall
Bilbo! Bilbo! Bilbo Baggins
The bravest little hobbit of them all

Hobbits from the Land of the Setting Sun make awesome sushi...but almost nobody else has tried it because they eat it all.

The idiom for the mysterious farthest-east is "Land of the Rising Sun."

The Land of the Setting Sun is not an idiom I've heard a lot but would logically refer to the far west. For instance, in stereotypical westerns, the victorious hero 'rides off into the sunset' - always going further west.

You are indeed correct. However a number of articles have been written about Japan referring to it thus (due to demographics, stagnant economic growth etc). So my mind made the jump to samurai hobbits.

Mind you, gunslinger hobbits isn't too bad either...

OTOH, from places like California and Hawaii, Japanwards is where the sun sets. No matter how far to the east you are, you're always to someone's west.

On a globe, at least- not sure that would apply to the back of a titanic turtle...

Imagine the Gaffer and Sandyman, the miller, arguing about the Baggins history, and the old Gaffer laying a hand on the hilt of his sword to defend the honor of Bilbo... sure he was old, thought Sandyman, but that meant he had little to lose... and didn't they say his sword was the twin to the one owned by Bandobras Took himself? The other patrons of the Ivy Bush slowly backed away - death was in the air, and an old quarrel was going to be finally settled.

Silence fell as a giant mushroom, dangling from a balloon, drifted into the Hobbit samurai bar.
