In Greyhawk the pantheon is actually a mix of Baklunnish, Seul, Oeridian, and Flan gods.

...except that a couple of them share the names of entities from Earth religions, although they don't seem to share anything else: Olidammara's name is pretty clearly derived from the Yoruba deity Olodumare, and i seem to recall someone writing in to Dragon to complain that D&D's St. Cuthbert didn't match the historical one in any way. I can't say about any others, but if the change from Olodumare to Olidammara is any indicator, there could be several others with names warped in that fashion.

I know I appreciate the SL love. And while the gods aren't as "unique" as some, SL panethon is not only tight at the top but plenty loose at the bottom. Thus you could potential have regional gods, small gods and of course the 8 over all. Not quite hodgepoge, as much as "Who's really import and who just fills in for some people's need."

Course I do think Nemorga and Drendari might improve to make the 8 the 10 but even with 10, still a nice collection.

I like the way FR and the Wilderlands do it. Looking at history and examples of how the Romans and other cultures adopted gods and how pantheistic religions break apart, adapt, merge and evolve, I find the Realms' and Wilderlands' pattern of religion to be quite realistic. Especially when you consider that they have influence form the our history. This reminds me in some extent of the Indian (as in India) religions. There are all sorts of gods, more numerous than one can count. And the whole idea of the Avatar comes from that culture too.
