Pathfinder 1E Hollow's Last Hope: the first adventure in Paizo's new world for free!

Can you go back and wipe out the spoilers in your quote?

PS

Done - with my apologies. I wouldn't want to ruin anyones enjoyment of this exceptional adventure. If this kind of adventure is what we can expect from the GameMastery line, there are truly great things to come.

World of Pathfinder and GameMastery modules

Al, yes, the Pathfinder adventure paths and the GameMastery modules are set in the same "campaign world" that the staff at Paizo is crafting, according to post from James, Jason and Erik, although they may not be set in the same part or region of that world, from what I recall.

Just ordered the free one and the kobold one. And a subscription.

If game mastery and pathfinder are as good as the old dungeon was, you'll have no problem...

For now, Chris West is our GameMastery Module guy, and Rob Lazzaretti is our Pathfinder guy.

Great to hear that Chris West will be a regular contributor, he is top notch! Rob makes maps that are visually very appealing, but you guys should stay on him to make sure that the maps stay functional, and that they match the text descriptions of the rooms...sometime there seems to be a communication breakdown there. On that note, I would cast my vote for maps to always be oriented with north on top unless there is a strong reason not to. I think these two things are often connected (having maps not oriented with north up makes it more likely for a directions to be confused between the map and the text).

How on earth do you make
Greypelt only CR3
? He's a
TPK waiting to happen
, especially as the PCs are going to be drained when they meet him. He looks more like
CR5 or even 6
.

Erik,

I've added these two unexpected jewels to the list I'm compiled of Gen Con special products and releases. I am definitely going to be spending some bucks at Paizo, on more than just games.

Thanks For Bringing These Back,
Flynn

Rauol_Duke is correct. Both Pathfinder and the GameMastery Modules are set in the same world. While Pathfinder (for the current time) is sticking to one region (Varisia), the GameMastery Modules hop around to give you a wider view of the world beyond.

Spoilers below.

Two levels of Warrior only add +1 to a creatures CR, assuming of course you do not give it the elite array. In addition, the ability score adjustments for the non-elite array were added in such a way to reduce his overall combat effectiveness to some extent (we added to his Dex and Int, and took away from his Str and Wis.

Admittedly, he is at the end of the mod, but if you read things correctly, the PCs get plenty of warning about him and can prepare appropriately... I hope.

Sorry, but you're pitting a
6HD creature that almost certainly knows they're coming thanks to the previous encounter
against first level PCs.

More spoilers below

The PCs can't use ranged weapons in the cramped confines, the PCs probably don't have weapons with reach, and Greypelt has a potion of Bull's Strength too. First level PCs are terribly fragile. Greypelt's got 43 HP and does 1d6+2 (not +3 - his Str is 15, not 16) plus 3 for PA for an average of 8.5 damage at +5 to hit - about the same as a first level fighter, but the first level fighter likely has only 13 HP (Con 16) and probably less by the time they meet. Other first level characters are going to do vastly less damage and have a vastly lesser chance of hitting. It seems to me that you're relying on the PCs getting multiple critical hits. PCs could firebomb him through the roof, if they have oil, but they have no way of knowing he's there and he's got the HP to take the minor damage the oil will cause and get out of there and hunt the PCs. And he's got a good Move Silently skill.

I'm just eyeballing it, quickly calculating how a first level party would fare, but I find it difficult to believe that the monastery encounter was adequately playtested. We had a recent thread where a single ogre caused a TPK. That was a much lesser creature and CR 3; this looks like EL 5 or 6.
