Hop like a dagger, Sting like a shortsword

Just a quick question really,

Is there anyway, other than a size change, to increase the damage die done by a weapon?
(if the answer is no, I'd ask how but then the thread would have to be in House Rules at the same time!)

I believe that there is a feat that makes daggers hit as though they are one size category larger.

Or I am going insane and it is a houserule.

I do believe that there is also a biting dagger or something like that which has the same property.

Tonight is not my night for remembering names ;/

What do you mean change the damage die? It is impossible to make a small dagger which does D3 damage do any more base damage because it is small (with the exception of using broken rules that are throughout all forgotten realms based books), if you want more damage then use a meduim dagger with D4 damage and a -2 to attack because of size difference, or you can use a small rapier that does D4 damage without the penalty. A small dagger doing d4 damage wouldn't be a small dagger anymore because its properties would change.

Why do you want to change the damage die anyways?

Since you asked...

Well,

I first asked the question to myself because I have a character who specializes in daggers and I figured "If I'm gonna put the effort into it, I might as well go all the way and see if I can find a way to make them deal 1d6 damage instead of 1d4" (The character is medium size you see).

By the time I got to EnWorld to post, I figured "Why limit it to just daggers?" and decided to ask in a more general sense about all weapons.

Thanks Hyp and Darkness for the tip about Gold and Platinum weapons, I had forgotten about that. Although, weapons constructed out of such material cannot be used with Weapon Finesse and I don't know if I want to make that sacrifice (to say nothing of requiring an Exotic Weapon Prof to use "heavy dagger" in the first place.)

This "biting" sounds intriguing, if any light could be shed on it I would be much obliged.

ok, I am going insane, I just cant find it.

I believe that the feat is called twist the knife and you treat daggers as though they were one size category larger for damage.

I also believe that there is a weapon called a biting dagger which does damage as though it is one size category larger and I think it had some other ability.

For the life of me though I cant find either one. It might be that they were both 2nd edition things, which would be most unfortunate. Maybe I'll have more luck tomorrow, sorry about that though ;/

But, if those things exist and someone can find them, then getting one of those heavy daggers and make it biting and get the feat a medium dagger will be doing a 2d6. Which would certainly be interesting ;) Considering the cost (2 feats and a special weapon) I dont think it is too excessive.

Arms & Armour 3.5 (Bastion) has the weapon property Forceful wich increase the damage die one step.
And it can be taken up to three times so a +1 Dagger with 3 Forcefuls would be dealing 1d10 damage.
