hostility within party, what do you guys think?

If you are reading this post, you are investing mindshare in the Darrin Drader corporation. As the spokesman and president of the Darrin Drader corporation, we officially do not espouse, sympathize with, or condone kicking people in the junk and burning their house down.

On to the matter at hand. If you want the archer to stick around, you, as the DM, need to show enough leadership to get the rest of the players to stop ganging up on the archer. While in-party fighting seems to be in vogue throughout gaming groups everywhere at the moment, it is up to you to keep it from happening to one person so much that they feel alienated from the group unless that is the type of game you want to be running. All you have to do is tell the rest of the group that you aren't going to allow this anymore, and the next time it happens, just refuse to allow them to do it.

Man, I could stay amused all day just sticking to this thread and hitting refresh.

:p

Good call on your part, Tidus4444! Where are you, maybe someone else in your area has an opening in their campaign?

Also, this has been happening to the Archer's other characters quite a bit, and he's had enough of other player killing, or threatining to kill his character, and is probably gonna quit. Is he overreacting?

I can understand why the Archer's player is annoyed with the situation. Maybe he could ask the DM to institute a new rule, at least for a while: "No attacking other PCs."

I mean, if the other PCs want to beat-up a fellow adventurer and take his money...then they ought to jump the NPC that hangs-out with them.

Err, Arlington Texas. You may have remembered my frantic posts at the gamers seeking gamers forum.

Well, I know this isn't much help, but if you're old enough to buy your own beer, can put up with room full of ex-military and/or ex-cops, and can commute to my house in Houston every other weekend, you're welcome to sit in on my game. :D

The other's action is the immature one. It's not that the player of the Archer is going to leave in a huff because he's overreacing - he's being driven out.

Frankly, were I the archer I would kill the party off the next chance I got. Starting with that barbarian prick that blindsided me when I was low on HP, then moving on to the rest of the group for supporting him.

Just take the last watch at night -usually also the person that has to cook breakfast- grind up some glass from a potion vial or whatnot ahead of time good and fine, and then put it in something where it would be easily concealed.. like a stew, or mixed in with salt. Or he could just kill 'em all in their sleep. Ya know.. either way.

It's why my group avoids 14-year-old players. :D

* ducks for cover and crawls away *

my group has a player who just turned 15. he is mechanically sound, roleplays well and shows up. if he hadn't told me he was 14 i never would have known :)

That is exceptionally rare. For a time, we had a 16-year-old player in our group while I was stationed in Hawaii, but he had to quit when we switched from Saturday afternoons to Friday evenings for game time.

Other than this one person, I haven't met a single teenager that would be welcome in my house for a game. Maybe it's because I teach the little monsters for a living. Be too much like bringing my work home with me. :)

But, regarding the topic du thread, I haven't seen an instance of PKing since I was stationed at Fort Bragg more than a decade ago (the aforementioned Traveler session being the last I can recall). Before that, I was 17 and living at home, and even then, instances of PKing were fairly rare.

Can there be rule-mandated junk-kicking too?

Yes, I think so, but only as a Rules Variant.

Good for you!

PS this is why my group doesn't permit evil characters. Sure, it's a little wussy, but it makes it easier to avoid this kind of fighting.

We usually allow evil characters only in evil campaigns. It just doesn't work the other way (except with Black Mage, of course ;-))

this isn't about evil vs good characters, it's about people who want to play a social game with other people vs. people who don't. Alignment isn't an excuse for being a moron...
