House of the Dragon spoiler thread

Intrigued that people thought that bed scene was particularly gruesome. I thought it was actually pretty mild and unrealistic enough to be not even be noted in my mind as "gross". I generally have a pretty moderate threshold for realistic gore too.

I thought it was a pretty good episode, with a lot of "Well well well if it isn't the consequences of my own actions!". Daemon really got to stop sending freaks to do his dirty work because they always do it dirtier than he imagined they would. Also if he really think he's a king, he needs to get more attitude, and take less crap. Like, when the Riverlords came to moan about some atrocities (which surely have been committed before in such a lengthy conflict, though I appreciate they might have had a few decades where things were more "battlefield-y"), he should have put them in their place, rather than standing around looking surprised.

A lot of moist squishing, and peeling noises, along with resetting the leg bone.. Just makes for easy heebie jeebies.

Seems like if you want to be queen, you should maybe do something..... They've really written her as a weak woman.
So far, yes, but she acknowledged her own lack of ability given her upbringing ("having a cup put in her hand instead of a sword"). I guess we'll see where things go with the scheme to try to use the unhappy citizens of King's Landing against the greens.

I do think its interesting that when it comes to pulling the trigger on the big "atrocities", Damon hesitates. Lets look at Daenerys for example near the end of GOT. She forces the Tarly's to bend the knee, they refuse. She then burns Lord Tarly alive....and suddenly all the men are on their knees. Everyone is brave until they see a man burned alive by a mystical super nuke.

This makes the bracken scene where they refuse Damon after he threatens to kill them an interesting one. Damon likely doesn't have to burn the lot of them, just line up a few high ranking noblemen and burn them one at a time (or eat them). At some point the brackens are likely to get in line. But he doesn't pull the trigger, I think he is generally surprised by their courage and sees it as a waste of talent to kill them. But it does put him in a terrible spot, because Damon is not a diplomat, and he doesn't know how to bring people to his side except by blood or trickery.

Well the 22nd July episode was my fav so far
Fascinating. I liked it, but I'm not sure that much. What was it that inspired this strong reaction? I'm not going to argue with you, just curious, if that matters to your response.

I liked what happened, but it all seemed predictable once set up, which I'm still processing if that was not great, or fine.

I will say I think I've had enough of the Damon dream sequences. Don't get me wrong, I liked them and I think it will be interesting to see how Damon shifts, but they are consuming a lot of screentime at this point. We have gotten the point of them, I think its time to move on.

The food shipment scene was cool, I like the cold war tactics. I like how there is no note, no announcement, just a simple flag, letting the people imagine the black's intent. Having the riot directly impact Alicent was a nice touch, making it where the Sept is not even a haven for her anymore.

Aemond is probably my favorite character at this point. Alicent is right that he is young and impetuous, but there is the raw material for a good king in there and we do see it on occasion. He has the strength and the force of command, he is also pretty intelligent and makes good decisions (for example he instantly recognizes what Larys is and wants to bring the wisdom of Otto back into the fold). His point about using naval mercenaries is an interesting debate. His councilors are right that its a gamble to bring "pirates" so close to their shores, but Aemond's right that the blockade is throttling them and their naval assets are too far away, so I can respect the decision either way.

Of course the scythe over all of their heads is that dangerous and possibly malicious aggression of his, as well of his ignorance of the smallfolk which could push him into a Tyrant. I am very curious to see how he ends up.

Also his dragon being their best weapon means he would need to put himself in danger to use that weapon.

Ya, I don't need more dreams at this point.... But I'm just letting them pass by.

Alicent and her father spent their lives trying to get their kids to rule, and appear not to have trained either to do so, which seems really odd, especially for her dad.
