House of the Dragon spoiler thread

I don't believe in the no-win scenario
Luckily I checked here during work and this thread reminded me I needed to cancel.

I went to the website on my phone, and upon signing in, it gave me two options. "Download the App" or "Manage Subscription" so I tap the second one and it takes me to a new page that times out. I figure no big deal, I work in a dungeon, so service is horrible. I go back to try again, and now when I sign in, the only option I'm presented is "Download the App"... That seems odd.

I spend ten minutes installing the app. Load it up, sign in, go to manage my subscription and it immediately takes me out of the app and back to the web browser.

Good grief.
They make it a PITA so you give up and keep it!

Daemon is an odd one. He goes from spending his whole life being self serving and hungry for power, and now all of the sudden he dreams of zombies and does a 180. It seems out of character for him, after spending a week in a haunted castle and being drugged by a witch, to have some nightmares and let them control him like that.
I think he was there for like a couple months. And I think the big turn happened when he finally gets his army . . . but only because a teenager outplayed him politically. He realized that he's BAD at being a leader. Like, it's character growth, and the supernatural stuff just highlights his realizations that his desire for power has been the cause of much of the pain in his life.

It doesn't help that they don't do a very good job of portraying the passage of time.

That was an issue in Game of Thrones too, because a) the world has atypical seasonal changes, and b) they had young actors so I guess they didn't want to highlight that Arya grew up a lot in what canonically was something like 18 months over 8 seasons.

So I've always had a very different perspective of Daemon. I honestly do think he's dutiful and believes in honor and his vows, at least as someone said a "gangster's honor".

Now he is selfish and self-serving, but honestly until this season I never got the impression that he would ever really rebel, I mean in season 1 he ultimately backed Viserys even when he was ill, he backed Rhaenyra's claim when the war happened, etc. Now he's always sulked and is definately bitter he wasn't chosen by his brother, but I never really saw him as the scheming take the throne type until they really start pushing it this season.

That was part of it for me too. Daemon is NOT good at diplomacy, and this incident really shows it. And frankly I think it also showed him.... he doesn't really WANT to be king. He wants the respect, he wanted his brother to choose him. But he doesn't want to rule and deal with people and diplomacy and all of that boring crap, he wants to fight and conquer!

The supernatural stuff just reinforced all that and took away some of his ego.... he saw the bigger picture, and realized that he is just a part to play in a short span of time, and that time will continue long after he is gone.... but his actions can carry on long after he is gone.

There are many similarities to Daemon and Aemon. Both are clever, bold, and ambitious. Though, I think Daemon has more regard for family and tradition, even if he is rebellious. Then again, Viserys is a more sympathetic and respectable character than Aegon is. Daemon is always reaching, deviously so, but knows limits and has patience. Im not sure that Aemon has that aspect in him. Aemon certainly hasnt had the Harrenhall experience either.
