How do I avoid getting Stoned...

Spell resistance is sounding like a good idea - We've just done away with action points - so it won't be 'cheating' on those rolls :)

Touch AC also seems like a must - glad I invested in expertise now!

Some spells that generate a (ranged) miss chance are sounding pretty attractive!

I'm wonder if I could use Enlarge Person - grapple it and use it as an 'anti magic beam' against it's followers?

Do you have access to the Book of Hallowed Might? It has a second-level cleric spell called Kick a Beholder's Sorry Ass. Wait--the name is something different, Crystal Reflection or something, but the effect is to reflect any rays back to their originator.

Otherwise, consider a fog cloud: if it can't see you, it can't target you. Also consider summoning multiple Arrowhawks around it to harrass it from behind. If you can get any sort of improved-invisibility creature to grapple it (ideally a summoned creature), and then you can cast a fog cloud on its location, you may be able to zip in and kill it before it has a chance to react.

Change you body type to "incorporeal" - by employing "Gaseous form" (drawback - very hard to still cast spells while doing so) or "Ghostform" (T&B, level 5 - can still cast ). N
Creatures in Gaseous Form are specifically *not* incorporeal; they're gaseous, which gives them DR 10/Magic (20/+1 in 3.0), but doesn't keep them from being targetted by spells or hit by rays.

Ha ha ha ha! Evil Laugh!

Guess I'm glad I helped publish this book a while back, before running this encounter?

Some of the following things will make tonight interesting (I know Inconsquenti-AL won't see this until tomorrow, now, which will be too late; he's just arrived at my house):

  • Juggernaut Plate
  • Razorjaws
  • Ramming Spikes
  • Feats - Improved firing arcs, Armor proficiency, Blink attack
  • Eye attacks (4 per arc):
    • insanity (80)
    • horrid wilting (120)
    • hold person (20)
    • confusion (30)
    • flesh to stone (60)
    • disintegrate (60)
    • prismatic spray (80)
    • cone of cold (40)
    • telekenisis (40)
    • inflict moderate wounds (15)
Just need to figure out this thing's CR. :)

Lol! Too bad for him, let us know how they do! :p And I was going to suggest start casting stone to flesh on all those stoned folk for some handy Allies during the fight!

I wish I had responded at the very beginning...

How do you avoid getting stoned?

don't say "Jehovah"!:P

Morrus: assuming a normal beholder is, what, CR13? I'd gage (totally unprofessionnaly) that baby at CR16 or 17...

Funny. Python rock. I was gonna suggest "Pull a Clinton". Turn to the GM and in your best Southern lawyer say "I did NOT inhale"

I believe break enchantment works for a cure. Death ward definitely doesn't help. Good touch AC might help too. I believe the beholder must hit with any of its rays. In that case something simple like mirror image will go a ways. I'm not aware of any non-flesh humanoids. You'd probably need to find a creature with an elemental subtype for that. (e.g. gargoyle - humanoid, but a monstrous one)

Sadly, Break Enchantment does not work in 3.5. Which is a bummer since that was one of the primary contingencies I planned for when my Bard took it.
