How do *you* find new players/DM?

First Post
So over the past 15 years of gaming, I've pretty much played with the same circle of guys. The circle grows and shrinks, folks move all about and such. Finally we seem to have some stability as people get married and/or retire in the same place. So now a couple of us who have a massive amount of free time are looking to find a DM and another 2-3 players and we're not quite sure how to go about it. Place an ad in the newspaper?? Something to the effect of: "2 socially adjusted, late 20s, non-smelly gamers looking for a DM for D&D who isn't a schmuck and doesn't have more than a tiny handful of houserules. Also looking for 2 non-idiotic, non-smelly players. Come game in my house in nice leather chairs where the beverages are free!" Then again, we live in Lawrence, Kansas, and the local paper is pretty small, so perhaps the Kansas City paper? I'm not even sure if this town has a gaming store, only gaming store I have any familiarity with is in Overland Park (a suberb of KC). So... where/how to advertise? How would you go about tracking down a DM and a couple players?

Talk to friends, talk to co workers. I've been in at least one group for 20+ years. When one falls apart, a new one is always easy to find. Just a few months ago I posted on gamers looking for gamers and found a great group just a few miles away.

I'll try the gamers seeking gamers, but I don't have any co-workers as I work from home for myself, and I already game with the only friends I have here, but sporadically at best.

Go to the local gaming store and post a notice. Talk to the people there. I've meet many gamers at gaming stores. Same with any conventions that you go to, especially the local ones.

If you game it they will come?
nah i dont really think that works too well unless you go up to your local gaming shop and run some games up there. Then mabe.
But i suggest like the people above me to post something at your local gaming stores and leave an email address or a phone number and you could psuedo-interview your possible new gaming mates. And if they smell you can tell them youll call THEM and for them to not call you....or if they are twinky...then tell them well you found some people already...but you never know when you might need someone else so youll keep their number handy...but make sure you despose of their number descretely, you dont need any stalkers or pyscho killers looking for revenge because you "rejected" them...

But the best gamers that youll really find is by hanging up their at your local gaming stores and gaming their for awhile. You meet lots of them and get to watch some in action. And when their group takes a smoke break or something approach one of them and "make them an offer" ...lol...thats how i feel into my gaming group im in now someone just walked up and introduced themselves...said they were looking for another gamer...was i interested...and its been great...

Actually I'm really interested in this topic as I'm looking to form a new group presently. I have some leads and those I got from this board in the Gamers Seeking Section...

Although I've had to post few times; I think alot of it is just luck/good timing. In fact, my previous group (before I moved) I found this way too and that was great experience. Then again I may have just been lucky. I've never had any luck at gaming stores. I always get the feeling like I'm bothering people. That and most people who hang out for large periods of time at a gaming store tend to be younger.

If available the FLGS is the best way to go. Thats how i met the group Iv'e been part of for the last 7 years.

Just be sure to make a simple easy to understand message that says what your are/are not looking for.

THe other option is to try conventions, most badges have a where from on them so just look for the people that are close by.

IF the above options are not possible or don't seem to be working, and the Gamers seeking Gamers board doesn't work then give the newspaper ad a try, it can't hurt.
