You're a wierd man, Hank. :p

Actually, I can see where he's coming from. Now that my character is 10th level, he's got pretty much all the abilities I wanted him to have. I don't particularly want any more -- and I don't want to do all the plane-jumping demon-stomping types of adventures that generally come with high level play.

Lemme at the orcs, man. That's where the fun is.

I see his point too but it doesn't make him normal!!!!!1111

As a player, I don't really want to keep track of XP. I don't have any idea how much XP any encounter is worth, or how much XP it takes to move from one level to another. I could look it up but I'm just not interested. So I don't mind when my GMs just tell me that I leveled. As long as it doesn't take too long between levels, and the increases don't happen in what appears to be an entirely random way, I'm happy.

So if a player does something cool you divide extra XP with group not just the individual? Or you like the option, but stick to the rules way mostly? I ask because I have been in cases where adversarial issues came up, but like a less only combat XP focus.
Each PC receives the same amount of XP at the end of a session. However, when something unusual or extraordinary occurs or an individual PC's subplot is going on, I will give small individual bonuses, usually no more than 10% of the total award for the night. The small bonus makes the player feel like it was a special session for them without causing favoritism issues, without advancing one PC faster than another, and without making the game more adversarial than it needs to be.
