Nothing of the above. I've played and enjoyed cliched character and unique characters, dominant characters and useless characters.

I've found that I usually like my characters more when they're Good and not -- I've tried playing chars that are Neutral or just don't give a damn but I don't seem to enjoy them as much. I generally like happy-go-lucky chars much more than bitter or jaded ones.

Though that said, I do have an Eberron PC idea for a TN char in House Sivis which I think I'd like, and I like playing all sorts of NPCs regardless of personality.

Didn't vote useful, but I probably should've -- I just don't need to be incredibly useful.

For maximum whiplash, I voted: Useful, Quirky, Dominant, Larger Than Life, Lifelike, and Other.

Useful, because I'm still bitter about a series of games back in high school where my character was just along for the ride and had nothing useful to do. And at the same time I'm happy when my character is Dominant, because I enjoy having at least one spotlight area for my character where no one else can really compete with him.

Larger Than Life is in there because I think it's a fun way to play a character (even, and arguably especially, when it's not an accurate description of the character's abilities), and also because roleplaying having powers which are well beyond anything I can do in real life is nifty. Lifelike because I also think it's fun to deal with more mundane things like interpersonal relationships, and also lifelike in the sense that I'm happy when my character has limitations similar to ones someone like that would have in real life.

Quirky, well, that's just for the amusement value and because a good quirky character is more memorable than a good cliche' character. And Other is for all the other stuff I think is fun about a character and generally try to shoehorn in wherever applicable.

An example of a character I like is the shop apprentice, his master is killed at the beginning of his career, he befriends the other PCs and defeats the villians.

Days or weeks later, his old life isn't one that is accepting him back, he flees from a new enemy and ends up trapped on a distant continent with a group, finds himself slowly becoming the leader and eventually he realizes that fate/destiny has placed him on a new course.

He's a powerful wizard now, leading a group of experienced adventurers, he's been fairly successful in keeping his enemies at bay and seeking money and riches for his group.

In all he's a character that has changed a lot from the first concept to the last time played.

I put useful, but what I really meant was involved in the action. I've had great fun even in games where I was not that useful as long as I'm involved.
