Illicit and illegal stress the second syllable because it is a prefix that implies negation. Il-legal (not legal), il-licit (not licit, not permitted by law). For three-syllable words without prefixes (such as syllable, possible), stressing the first syllable is quite common.

While we are on the topic, how do you pronounce Wyrm? I always just assumed it was a tricky way of spelling Worm.

I'm a touch dislexic (can you tell?) so when I first saw Illithid, I thought the only possible way of pronouncing it was I-thil-lid.

Ever since then I just can't make myself say either Illithid or Illithid. I think Ithillid sounds much cooler.

Wyrm is like Worm in my opinion. Unless you want to pronounce it like a strangled form of "weird" with an "m" on the end.

Hmm...I'm not much good with telling about emphasis, but I've always had the "i" sound at the start as a seperate syllable.
