How do YOU say "mystic theurge"?

Seeing off these threads on the mystic theurge made me wonder... How in the heck do you pronounce "theurge"? It's been bugging me since first edition.

While you're all at it... how do you pronounce "dweomer"?

and just for kicks, let's see how many different pronunciations of these we can get:

drow
cthulhu
bullete
xvart

Hmm, I always love this type of discussion. Here's my takes (and please forgive my poor enunciation text):

THEE - erj (derived from theurgy)
DWO - mer (honestly how do I pronouce it? En-chant-ment :D)

dro (rhymes with so)
kit - THOO - loo
BULL - ett
- and -

Hey! Who did that?

what were those evil intelligent manta rays called? Ixitchachtl? heh.

theurge: THEE-urj ("thee" as in "thesus", not "the")

dwoemer: DWEE-mer

drow as rhymes with crow

cthulhu: ka-THOO-loo

bullete: boo-LAY

xvart: ze-VART

Theurge = Thee-urge
Dweomer = Dwee-mer
Drow = rhymes with cow
Cthulhu - K'thu'lu (I generally ignore the last 'h')
Bulette - Bul'et
Xvart - Zvart

:)

Interesting link for
dweomer

The rec.games.frp.dnd FAQ has the following pronounciations:
Bulette = boo-LAY
Drow = DROU (as in drowsy), (however, DROH is often heard anyway)
Dweomer = DWEH-mer (rhymes with "hem her"), or DWIH-mer

Cheers!

Well, I can promise you there will be disagreement on the pronunciations! As I always say, there's only one pronunciation that counts: the DM's! ;)

So taking them one by one:

Theurge: has a voiceless th as in thin, an EE sound, and the end rhymes with urge, so THEE-urge.

Dweomer: rhymes with swimmer.

Drow: rhymes with cow, though many people instead rhyme it with snow.

Cthulhu: well I've always said kuh-THOO-loo, but I have also heard kuh-TOO-loo as well.

Bulette: (note the spelling, one 'l' and two 't's.) So that's boo-LET (sounds somewhat French).

Xvart: this one's a tricky one, as the sound is zv (cf. the word svelte, it's similar but is voiced).

edited to correct the pronunciation of 'theurge', which I completely failed to explain properly!

theurge: th-urge

dweomer: dwee-oh-mer

drow rhymes with cow

cthulhu: kuh-thoo-loo

bullete: boo-lay

xvart: zuh-vart or ze-vart or something. Not sure how to put it into words.

Anyone know why Bulette, which we can be pretty sure ought to be pronounced 'boo-LET', is instead given an erroneous French pronunciation 'boo-LAY'? I mean, other than perhaps the folks at TSR didn't speak French? ;)

Not really answering your question here, but I am giving some info.

From the 2e Monstrous Manual: "Aptly called a landshark, the bulette (pronounced Boo-lay) is a terrifying predator..."

Maybe it's based of some French folklore or something? Who knows. I'm gonna have to start looking, cause now I'm curious.

Cthulu's a two syllable word people... C'mon I can't be the only one capable of saying Cthu can I?

drow sound like cow; one of players whose from Ontario and spent years in LA is starting to warm me to the idea of it as sounding like Crow instead.

bullete Byoo-let
xvart Zvart
dweomer is two syllables, but I don't know how to write the eo sound to indicate how I say it. I kinda mush an e sound an o sound together. It seems celtic to me, and we all know how poorly the latin alphabet renders that.

Theurge to me is thee-urge with the two syllables nearly blended and all the sounds after the initial th softened.
