There are a lot of French words/names like that but they all end in "et," not "ette."

You're probably right, but I'm still gonna call it a boo-lay.

That brings up another thing, whether the pronounciation is right or not, there's a comfort zone in pronouncing it the way you have for all sorts of years, wouldn't you say?

It's just a game after all, and at the end of the day, nobody but you and your group cares about how it's pronounced, so you might as well do it whichever way you're comfortable with.

Regardless, I still find it interesting to find out how other people are pronouncing things in their games.

I grew up in Quebec, I had a french teacher named Pierre Boulet, it was pronounced boo-lay, so I don't see why Bulette couldn't be the same. And as far as I recall there are other french words pronounced the same way. I'm a little rusty though, haven't had to speak french in 3 years.

That is incorrect. An et ending can be a long a sound. An ette ending is usually an ending that sounds like the et in net. For example, Marie Antoinette.

I certainly agree the name "Boulet" should be pronounced /BOO-lay/, possibly with that "rounded" /oo/ sound that (I've been told) Americans tend to have trouble with. French class was a long time ago for me, but I believe I'm remembering right as I'm a bit pedantic that way.

FURTHER EDIT: Not that I'm any kind of linguist either. I just remember French class pretty well, and in particular I remember being told I ought to make the effort to pronounce that vowel sound in French because I *can.*

Because it's not spelled the same. OTOH, I know a fellow with a French-derived "-ette" name that insists it was originally pronounced /-ay/... but I know it's not worth arguing about, much like "bulette"... however it's pronounced.

I'm no linguist or pronounciation guide, so I didn't emphasize what might've needed to be emphasized. The way he pronounced it was just boo-lay. No rounding or anything crazy like that.

At Origins one year, one of the guys working the White Wolf booth was pronouncing it like " SHAW - me - say ". I was wondering who this new group of Scottish vampires were...
