How do you tell a fellow player he can't pick a particular feat for his PC?

Questions never addressed.

Does the group frequently ride to places or engage in mounted combat?

If so then a wizard with the ride feat is not that out of balance - since you need to make a ride check in order to cast a spell while mounted.

No one had ever addressed whether or not the wizard's player was asked about his conept for his character. Nor was an example of how he role-played the PC (only a comment on him not having sufficient ranks in the appropriate skills to get bonuses due to synergy). As pointed out the PC couldn't have 5 ranks in a cross class skil by 3rd level.

Since they are cross class skills, perhaps the player felt that they were useful enough for the situation to justify not having to spend cross class skill points to increase ranks. For the price of one feat the character saves 4 skill points (2 ranks equivalent in 2 cross clas skills).

As far as Acrobatic goes same logic could apply.

Tumble is a good skill to use to get out of AoO range so there could be a benefit.

Why shut it down? The underlying question in the OP are still interesting, and people should be able to talk about them. Plus, I'm figuring the note should be able to whip up at least another 10 responses. Here's one: I think it was pretty chicken, and you've got more than one problem player in your group, Driddle.

By the way, what is an "optimal feat choice" for a wizard, anyway? Metamagic sucks rocks at low levels. Many magic item creation feats are out of reach. The ever-so-commonly-suggested Toughness is, in my opinion, a waste.

Spell Focus (whichever - Evocation as a default)
Point Blank Shot
Precise Shot
Skill Focus (Concentration)
Eschew Materials (depending on DM style)
Augment Summoning can be very helpful at low levels as well, if you're playing someone who specializes in Conjuration
Weapon Focus (Spell)

These are all good choices, and all pretty much core options.

Regardless... As I said recently, the problem has been taken care of.

How so? The guy got a note. I'll skip over the immature method of telling him and threatening him and just goto the fact the guy, at least according to what you've told us, hasn't changed anything. So, did he argue the point or just roll over and accept that he was wrong?

Spell is not a valid Weapon Focus.

Ray is.

Yeah, well. My point is the same - Weapon Focus can be a good feat choice for a low-level wizard, as were the others I pointed out.

Really, if you don't think much of Driddle's post, you shouldn't keep posting in this thread.

You don't have to agree with everyone in order to post. Otherwise, we coudln't discuss anything. We'd just be sitting around the table patting each other on the back and agreeing with each other. Like an AA meeting or something.
