How does your group deal with rules updates?

As an Iron fisted DM I let the players know what, if any, changes will be used, before the sesion they are implemented. Players who are affect by the change:

1. Are allowed to replace /switch out the effected 'thing' if the error was not thier fault and were not abusing it.

or

2. Recieve no compensation if they were "raping the rule"
Exactly! But mostly I just update the rules when errata is released, though I still keep divine favor and righteous might in their original forms.

Most groups I play with could care less about anything that is not printed in a book. Errata, FAQ, whatever, none of them pay attention to it, if something is game breaking the DM deals with it. Therefore the only updates we have to deal with is new books, and that only comes up if we have the book with the change to a rule which isn't too much of a problem usually.

Generally, when starting a new campaign, we take note of errata, review the FAQ for possible house rules, and take stock of the books we'll be using. Then we freeze the rules at that point and don't update anything until the next campaign.

The group I am currently with was playing 3E when 3.5E came out.
We never discussed what we were going to do.
The next gaming session when we were all together everyone had the 3.5 books and had already updated character sheets. So we just went with it.
It was never an issue :p
As far as errata we try to keep up on it and apply it when we learn of it.
Sage advice has never been brought up.

7 out of 10 people in my group dealt with 3.5 by leaving D&D to go back to homebrew systems. The other 3 stayed with it.
